NORTHEAST PLANNING COUNCIL #4 (Fermont/Verona/McKinley) MEETING MINUTES September 20, 2023 First Congregational Church, 342 NE Capital Ave ATTENDANCE: MEMBERS: JP Wilson, Mary Conklin, Dave Salerno, Chuck Yarger, Kim Yarger, Roger Koning, Mary Lusk, Dave Wagner GUESTS: Craig Long, Autumn Smith After introductions BCPD: Officer Long handed out the Sept crime report. Drug enforcement raid netted a large quantity of money and drugs in the North Ave / Groveland neighborhood. BCPD: After the introductions, Officer Long passed out the August crime report which showed violent crime increased. Vacant properties on Wendell and Pitman Ave. have been brought and undergoing renovation. 15 Merritt has the asbestos removed and is slated for demolition. Maple Terrace shootings resolved. Homeless camps on Consumer property can be addressed by the police department. A motion was raised and approved to have the city consider moving the blinking light by the former State St & Division intersection to the entrance of the police department and courthouse parking lots. Another motion was raised and approved to have the city consider installing a stop sign on McKinley at the Pleasantview or Laural intersection to deter speeding. MINUTES: The June minutes were not received. Voting was postponed until the next meeting COMMENTS: Mary Conklin found the meeting informative, and interesting. Dave Salerno expressed appreciation for the new street pavement in the neighborhood. Kim expressed concern the merging traffic at Division and Hamlin for the city hall construction project, being an accident waiting to happen. Mary Lusk thanked officer Long for his participation at the First Presbyterian Church summer festival. They are hosting a tailgate for fall athletes in Oct. Autumn offered her opinion that the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine causes a variety of health problems. She is affiliated with a wellness company that is spreading the word.
