NORTHEAST PLANNING COUNCIL #4 (Fermont/Verona/McKinley) MEETING MINUTES November 20, 2024 First Congregational Church, 145 NE Capital Ave DRAFT Members: Khyrinn Herring, Mary Lusk, Roger Koning, Kim Yarger, Chuck Yarger, Tanya Waschak, Dave Salerno, Mary Conklin, Craig Long, Boonikka Herring Guests: Bryan Gandy, Kim Perry, Rebecca Parker BCPD: After the introductions, Craig handed out Oct crime report. With cooler weather things slowing down. Would like to send a crime report via email rather than print. Tanya recounted having to call dispatch over four days before an officer took care of the problem. Craig said the disconnect might be a computer issue. Minutes: October 2024 minutes approved. Code: Bryan handed out Sept-Oct compliance and inspection issues. Tanya and Kim both referred neighborhood housing issues to him. Election: Voting was unanimous; Boonikka chair, Khyrinn vice chair, Dave notetaker. Visitor Reports and Requests: Tanya wondered if odd-even parking was being discussed by city commission. Chuck reiterated a complaint to Bryan about McKinley St problem house. Rebecca referred a house on Woodward. Craig commented on homeless issue; usually combo of mental and substance issues. Homeless camp clean up of discarded needles costing $. Khyrinn suggested helping homeless people cope with the cold weather with tents might encourage self-cleaning. General discussion about the lack of low-income housing in Battle Creek. Member comments: Mary Conklin finds the meeting informative and interesting. Mary Lusk said First Presbyterian Church having a Christmas Party on Dec 14, 3-5 pm at their retreat center on Wabascon Rd. It is also available to rent.
