Council Minutes – April 9, 2012
Meeting at

Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:02 PM by Robert Whitfield, chair.
Attendance: Robert Whitfield, Chair; Dale Stratton; Nate Zanotti; Sara Schmanske; Joshua
Fausey; David Moore; Stan Beckwith; Joe Britvec; Barbara Beckwith; Mary Lou Ramon; Fred

Previous Minutes: The minutes from March 12, 2012 were approved by a voice vote.
Correspondence: None
Police Report: Officer Chris Brown alerted the council on the rising number of metal thefts
such as copper from air conditioning units.
Guest Speaker 1: Fred Bachman from Bachman Hebble Funeral Home talked about the pre-
planning of services they provide as well as being in business for 103 years. For further details
on the services they provide, go to www.bachmanhebble.com.
Guest Speaker 2: Josh Farrow from Happy Daze spoke about the benefits of having a medical
marijuana shop in the community. The benefits include consultation services and educational
programs. A patient would have to be qualified by a licensed medical doctor to get a card.
Patients with a valid card can transport up to 2.5 ounces.
Commissioner’s Report: The commission will be voting at the next meeting whether or not to
allow alcohol permits for parks such as Bailey Park, Irving Park and Leila Arboretum.
School Report: None
Code Report: Susan Bedsole spoke to the current grass growing season and how a report can
be filed against a homeowner or business if grass exceeds 9 inches. They will come out to
investigate and a property owner will have 10 days once notified to resolve the issue. After that
a ticket will be issued.
Membership: Excused absence for Deborah Gregory, Darlene Mayo and Mason Mayo
Beautiful Battle Creek Award: The award went to 1332 West Michigan Avenue – Handy
Dandy Party Store as reported by Dale Stratton.
Old Business: None
New Business: Speaker for May meeting will be J.J. Ramon – Chair for Leila Palooza
Adjournment: Chair Whitfield adjourned the meeting at 8:06 PM
