Water Committee

VILLAGE OF BIRON 451 KAHOUN ROAD, WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI 54494 WATER UTILITY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES October 30th, 2024 2:00 P.M. Members Present: Jamie Biegel, Chairperson; Patty Gapen and Mark Honkomp, Committee Members Others Present: Kayla Lumaye, Water Superintendent; Samantha Daugherty, Clerk; Peggy Doughty, Utility Clerk 1. Chairperson Jamie Biegel called the meeting to order at 2:07 2. Discussion on removing chemicals from water The committee discussed getting rid of the fluoride in the water. Mark asked that staff send out a public notification to make residents aware of the decision. Kayla stated there is roughly 43 days of fluoride remaining at the well. It would be ideal to have the fluoride removed prior to having to restock the supply. The committee will meet again next Wednesday November 6th at 8:30 AM to discuss this topic again. 3. Review 2025 Budget – The 2025 Budget is to be changed by $2,000 if fluoride is to be removed. No changes were made at this time. 4. Superintendent’s report - Kayla stated that the Safe Drinking Water Loan Intent to Apply application was submitted this morning by Westwood. If water utility management training is completed by half of the board, the application will be reevaluated so we can obtain 10 more points. Kayla presented two quotes for a new Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) to the committee. The committee recommends purchasing the VFD in 2025 from CTW corporation utilizing funds from the inspection/repairs of well line-item. The goal is to have the new VFD installed prior to the water tower being taken offline.
