HBC December Meeting Minutes December 10, 2024 6.30pm Fire Station 92, Bluffdale Objectives ● Individuals will understand Communities That Care ● Individuals will understand the structure of Communities That Care ● Individuals will understand the phases of CTC along with roles Board Members present: Jona Stapley, Camille Hawkins, Brighton Wilson Liz Barney, Keeley Henderson, Melissa Henderson Board Members absent: Frank DeVito Time: Topic 6:30 Welcome - ● Brighton Welcomed members and guests ● Thanked those that have helped with activities. ○ Thank you to Trunk or Treat volunteers! ○ Thank you to Santa in the Park volunteers! ○ Thank you to Jona for taking care of the food! ● Upcoming Bluffdale City Events were announced ● Meeting Agreements were read 6:40 Communities that Care ● Julia Glade presented on: ○ Communities That Care ■ Introduced the communities that care. Played video that introduced prevention work ■ Discussion - CH mentioned that the CTC process is a long term vision, not nearsighted. ■ BW mentioned that we can be in more than one phase at a time. ■ CC mentioned that you don’t end at phase 5. The CTC process is a circle and continues. ■ ○ Video on results: Can take years to see results. Can start to see changes in 2 years. ■ Can see measurable results, but it takes time. Some coalitions see measurable results in 2 years. CTC and prevention work the long game. ■ CC mentioned that we are building off of what the coalition already has built with Coalitions Lite’s framework and will be  filling in things that may be missing to bolster our coalition and community. ■ JG Explained Sharps survey and how that data is used by the coalition. Mentioned that there was a meeting with Dr Hart at Summit to talk about including Sharp survey to students. ■ BW explained that we are in phase one and also working to implement programs (phase 5) ○ Phases of CTC along with roles ■ JG explained structure of CTC ● Key leaders need to be part of this work and need to have a voice. ● Community board = coalition ○ 6 workgroups are filled by coalition ● A Member asked about having a champion. Bw explained that that is something that we will work ● CC, CTC coach, informs that the facilitator is the guide. Facilitator brings the knowledge of CTC to the coalition. ○ We need the community to buy in. It’s the Communities that Care, not the facilitator that cares. ● Community board does the work ■ This is a community effort ■ Roles of various members: ● Providing access to resources = Key leaders ● Doing the work of CTC = Coalition = Community board ● Providing staff support - facilitator JG discussed key leader orientation (KLO) and taught that the core workgroup is designed to run through phase 1 which ends with the KLO. ● JG asked who would volunteer to be involved in the Corework group? ● CH and LB volunteer to be in the core workgroup to be facilitated by BW. * The Fire chief suggested the Mayor as top Key leader. As well as having police and fire involved. Bluffdale has Dare officers at schools and they know what’s going on. * CC suggested the Police chief as key leader and dare officer can be part of the coalition. * Famous baseball player, John Buck, might be a good key leader. He can be someone the kids get excited about and is a face people would know. * LB Brought up meeting with Molly Hart from Summit Academy. Dr Hart is very interested in coming to KLO and to be involved with the CTC process. She knows how to support communities through schools.  * Fire chief is trying to assign firemen representatives to each school. They can go into the school, be seen and eat lunch with the kids and get to know them. CC mentioned that this is great mentoring and gives an opportunity for kids to have positive experiences with adults in the community. * A Member asked if any of the principals have been talked with. BW has been talking with principals from HVMS, LB and MH have contact with Summit principals, We need to reach out to others. A HBC member has family members that attend Bluffdale Elementary. They will talk with BW about establishing a connection with Bluffdale Elementary. * LB mentioned HBC’s partnership with Summit to provide naloxone to summit schools. They are thankful to have that on their campuses. It would have been helpful in years past. We can reach out to other Bluffdale schools to see if they would be interested in the same partnership. * The Fire Chief mentioned to include polygamy schools our relationship building. Mayor Hall may have some connections. Fire department has established a connection as well. * Phase 3 will evaluate resources and data. A Member asked if we have taken time to do stakeholder interviews..are we talking to community members and getting input on problems they notice. During coalitions lite, yes, but we will revisit gathering more data as we progress through CTC phases. 7:20 Healthy Bluffdale Business (3 mins each) ● Workgroup check in and board vote approval ○ Youth Bingo Night Proposal and Vote ■ Jan 16th. Combined with Mountain Point. Will be a larger group..expecting about 400 attendees. Youth council has asked if Coalition can help with refreshments ■ Suggesting a grazing board. Do we have manpower to run it or should we cater? Asking for $1000 for catering and a recruitment table and a table with Sharps information. There wi ■ LB made a motion to partner with the youth council and budget up to 750 for refreshments for bingo night. KH second ■ In favor: LB, MH, KH ■ Opposed: JS, CH ■ Not voted: BW ■ Motioned passed  ○ Beat the Winter Blues Update ■ CH gives update ■ Evening of fun and connection and resources. Not at point to propose a budget. We will look for individuals to handle booths, will have a stage with events, ■ JS mentioned there may be a band in independence. She will look for contact. ■ JG asked if we are looking for organizations to come ● People that can share Community resources and activities ○ Stress Busters Workshop Update ■ Working with Diana ■ Tentative Tuesdays 4:30-5:30 ■ Starting January 21st ■ Working to get a second workshop set scheduled later in 2025- staying connected with your teen ○ Screenagers Update ■ Tentative date is Wed/thurs Feb 19th or 20th ● November 26, 2024 Meeting Minute Review & Approval ○ BW updated last name. ○ Remove BW’s annotated notes that we didn’t get to ● Program & Retreat Proposal by Camille & Vote ○ Early 2025 do a board retreat (stay in town work on team building retreat) Looked at 3 potential options ○ Camille will working on getting the board a more solid proposal ○ Also thought about a potential youth council juniors camp in the summertime ○ MH suggested looking into 4H programming that is already in place ○ There is a junior Miss bluffdale. ○ Need to get connected with Bluffdale arts. ○ ● Board Chair Discussion and Vote ○ LB motions to vote on Melissa Henderson as interim Board chair until May Coalition meet. ○ CH seconds ○ In favor:MH, KH, LB, CH, JS ○ Opposed: none Incentive recipients ○ Received either a Brio gift card or 1 of 2 Quench It gift cards  ■ KH, CH, LB ○ Acknowledgement that the extra 5 Brio gift cards went to Board members as a Thank you for all the hard work they put in over the year. ■ LB, MH, KH, JS, CH 8:00 Meeting Wrap up
