NOTICE OF A PUBLIC MEETING OF THE
HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF BROWNSVILLE
Pursuant to Chapter 551, Title 5 of the Texas Government Code, the Texas Open Meetings Act, notice is hereby given that the
Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) of the City of Brownsville, Texas, has scheduled a Regular Meeting, on Friday,
February 11, 2022 at 12:00 P.M., in the Brownsville Public Library – Main Branch, 2600 Central Blvd., Brownsville,
Cameron County, Texas, 78520.
Pursuant to Section 551.127, Texas Government Code, one or more Commissioners or employees may attend this meeting remotely
using videoconferencing technology. The video and audio feed of the videoconferencing equipment can be viewed and heard by

Members of the public who submitted a “Public Comment Form” will be permitted to offer public comments as provided by the
agenda and as permitted by the presiding officer during the meeting.
A recording of the meeting will be made and will be available to the public in accordance to the Open Meetings Act.

The first ten (10) speakers who register to speak no later than noon the day before the meeting will be allowed a three-minute
allotment to address their concerns regarding items not posted on the agenda.

A.1 11222021 – 1247 E. Madison St. – CELEDONIO GARZA BUILDING
District D4
Request: Rehabilitation of the existing Border Brick Building.
Applicant: Marianne Sanchez.
City Staff: Juan Velez, Historic Preservation Office, 956-548-6142.
Staff recommendation: The building will be rehabilitate to use it as a coffee shop. A rear shed will be added to offer
an open space.
Approval following staff recommendations.
A.2 No Number – 1754 E. 13th St. – SINCLAIR SERVICE STATION
District D1
Request: Remodel of existing service station, demolition of existing side addition, and new side addition.
Applicant: Andres Alviar, Jr.
City Staff: Juan Velez, Historic Preservation Office, 956-548-6142.
Staff recommendation: A portion of the original service station still exists on the rear. The driveway of the original
service station was enclosed to win space long time ago. The proposal will preserve the original walls and openings of
the service station, keep the later front addition, demolish the side addition, and build a new side addition coherent
with volume, mass and a style that will not compete with the historical gas station.
