ADJOURNMENT This Agenda may be Amended Posted at Buena Vista Town Hall and www.buenavistaco.gov MINUTES - HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION TOWN OF BUENA VISTA, COLORADO – July 11, 2024- 3:00 PM CALL TO ORDER At 3:05, Mary Therese called the meeting to order. ROLL CALL Commissioners Mary Therese Anstey, Jo Reese, Suzy Kelly, Nancy Locke, John O’Brien, and Bill Bryans attended. Joel Benson and Jamie Graves attended on behalf of the Town. Members of the public in attendance: Hannah Harn. AGENDA ADOPTION Agenda was approved unanimously. APPROVAL OF MINUTES – June 6, 2024 The minutes were approved unanimously PUBLIC COMMENT None BUSINESS ITEMS MU-MS code revisions - John discussed the proposed revisions. There was a lengthy discussion with comments from both the commissioners and staff. These comments focused on the importance of size and scale, materials, window patterns, setback of upper stories, and other relevant topics. A number of revisions were incorporated into the draft and the document was unanimously approved for transmittal to the town planning department. Post-events assessment of Historic Preservation Month 2024 – Mary Therese discussed the Historic Preservation Month events with the following changes being planned for next year: provide a drawing for the art contest participants to color and allow original art, start the essay and the art contest earlier. RR Depot platform damage – Nancy discussed the damage to the original depot concrete platform in the south parking at the corner of RR and E. Main. HPC to send letter to Town notifying them of the damage. Update on Buena Vista as a future CPI on the Road location – Jo continues to work on this possible event and will coordinate with Lisa at BV Heritage to discuss. Nancy said she was going to the CPI event in Steamboat Springs. Recap of CLG webinar on Colorado Main Street program – Mary Therese reported on the webinar noting that one of the main focus items of the Main Street Program was historic preservation. Update on E. Main Street mural – Mary Therese contacted the property owner who is very interested in preservation and understanding about how the HPC can help. Mary Therese will provide the owner some information and keep the HPC posted on how we can help. Future Grant Application Planning – Mary Therese suggested a study on the history of tourism in Buena Vista. After a long discussion it was agreed to go forward with an April 2025 grant application to the State Historical Fund (SHF). Mary Therese will solicit estimates from colleagues in order to be prepared for the Town’s budgeting process in September. Updates from related organizations and general discussion – BV Heritage is having a jam- packed summer full of events. McGinnis Gym is finishing up with paint, drywall, and restoration of the original maple floor. Next meeting – August 1, 2024 STAFF UPDATES The Town’s comp plan Open House was discussed with all commissioners noting that it was well run and had a large turnout. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 pm.
