CITY OF CAPE MAY CAPE MAY BEACH SAFETY COMMITTEE Meeting Minutes COMMITTEE MEETING: January 24th @ 4:30pm LOCATION: Auditorium Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag Roll Call In attendance: 1. Steven J. Steger, Jr-Citizen, Chairman 2. Christine N. DiDonato-Citizen/Secretary 3. Lorraine Baldwin, Council Liaison 4. Harry Back-Citizen, Supervisor of Beaches 5. Tom Medvecky 6. Sara Werner-CMBP Beach Patrol, Lieutenant In abstention: • Dr. McCoy • Alex Coulter-Fire Chief. Michael Eck to represent until Chief Coulter returns. • Eric Prusinsky-DPW Representative Minutes for December meeting entered into record for approval: • Motion to approve: Steven Steger • 2nd: Tom Medvecky • December minutes approved and submitted for posting • Next meeting: February 28th @4:30pm 2 CMBSC Positions open to the public and posted: • All are welcome to apply • Roy Sundstrom submitted letter of intention • Mark DeBlasio suggested Review of Sub-Committees: Each subcommittee has been asked to meet, appoint lead, set goals and approximate timelines. Please be prepared to report on progress in February meeting. 1. Beach Replenishment: Harry Back, Marc DeBlasio, Lorraine Baldwin potential citizen participation: TBD 2. Beach Safety/Education: Tom Medvecky, Christine DiDonato, Steve Steger, Harry Back potential citizen participation: Rich Demers, Ralph Atwell, Gladys Mendo a. PA System: Alex Coulter(Michael Eck in the interim. See above), Eric Prusinski, Harry Back, Lorraine Baldwin potential citizen/leadership participation: TBD 3. Marketing: Sara Werner, Steve Steger, Tom Medvecky potential citizen/leadership participation: TBD PA System: “State of Affairs” ▪ Timeframe to Launch and Completion: Looking towards 2023 ▪ Lorraine Baldwin: As soon as specs received will bring back to subcommittee to decide next course of action ▪ Main substation outside of Convention Hall ▪ Working with Joseph McLaughlin ▪ The earlier permits are submitted the better due to logistics of paperwork and approval. ▪ Police department and CMPB going with Nixle per Harry Back and Chief Dekon Fashaw re: alerts, foul weather/quickly approaching storms Beach and Surf Safety: Educating the Public re: Beach Safety ▪ Timeframe: Educational Tools Plan should be in place by March meeting ▪ The message re: surf safety and awareness need be duplicated and re-iterated on various platforms: videos, brochures, email blast. ▪ Create talking points/commercial that cohesively supports our message i.e.: Each announcement starts with: “A message from the Cape May Beach Patrol…” ▪ All educational material should be available on CMBP website ▪ Steve Steger has engaged support for website creation through Square Space: tracks analytics/demographics of users ▪ Create a CMBP event with community: Weekend open house to welcome public. Educational and social initiative for kick-off of 2022 Summer Season. “Beach Safety with the Cape May Beach Patrol” ▪ Questions: where does current QR code take user? To city portion of Beach Patrol.
