Call to Order
Ms. Bernache called the meeting to order at 7:38pm.
Old Business
Approval of the April Minutes
The committee reviewed the April minutes and Ms. Wilson made a motion to approve the minutes.
Second by Mr. Toledo. All members were in favor. The April minutes were approved as written.
Status of Budget Request
Ms. Powers shared details of the City Council worksession on April 22nd. Ms. Powers stated the Council
has approved an increase of $5,500 for the summer camp scholarships. There was also concern from a
councilmember of what the committee actually does. Ms. Higgins suggested inviting the member to an
EAC meeting. Another suggestion was to highlight the committee’s accomplishments on the College
Park website. Mr. Toledo, Ms. Sanders, and Ms. Mahoney volunteered to list ideas on what to highlight
on the website.
Discuss plans for 2017 College Park Day
Ms. Bernache stated the committee will either share a table or have their own table. Volunteers are
needed to staff the table and pass out books and journals. Mr. Toledo volunteered to create a schedule of
time slots to staff the table.
Discuss plans for 2018 scholarships to pay for books for College Park residents attending UMD
The committee decided to table this item for the next meeting.
Real School Gardens
Ms. Sanders reminded the committee about the big dig at Laurel Elementary on June 2nd and to please let
her know if you would like to attend.
New Business
Committee size limit
The committee decided to keep the committee size limit as is.
Residency requirement
The committee discussed that members of the EAC should be residents of College Park. Ms. Bernache
made a motion that EAC members be College Park residents. Second by Ms. Mitchell. All members
were in favor and the motion is approved.
Determination of committee chairperson 2017-18
The committee nominated Ms. Bernache as the chairperson and Ms. Mahoney as the vice-chairperson for
the 2017-2018 fiscal year.
Yearly report: summary for the City of committee activities
The committee reviewed and completed the annual report to the Mayor and City Council and will include
the following items:

2016 College Park Day
DACA letter
MD summer camp scholarships
Essay contest
Hosted Greenbelt Education Committee and attended their meeting
EAC membership increased

Issues:
The EAC has voted that only College Park residents be allowed as appointed members of the EAC.
