I. Call to Order Mr. Bradford called the meeting to order at 6:36 p.m. II. Approval of Agenda a. Mr. Toledo motioned to approve the agenda. Mrs. Oarr seconded the motion. All were in favor. The motion passed 6-0-0. III. Approval of Minutes a. Mr. Toledo motioned to approve the minutes from December 2016, as there was no quorum to do so at the January meeting. Mrs. Oarr seconded the motion. All were in favor. The motion passed 6-0-0. b. Mrs. Pianowski motioned to approve the minutes from January 2017. Mr. Grims seconded the motion. All were in favor. The motion passed 6-0-0. IV. Treasurer’s Report - November 2016 a. Mrs. Pianowski motioned to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Mr. Toledo seconded the motion. All were in favor. The motion passed 6-0-0. V. Field Use Requests a. The Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Upper Room requested to use the snack bar, pending completing of construction, on 6/10/2017 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. 1   Mr. Bradford stated that the College Park Boys and Girls Club Field Use Request was previously approved for use on Saturdays.  Mr. Grims motioned to approve the request, pending completion of renovations to the space and with the understanding that the applicants know that the College Park Boys and Girls Club events will be taking place at the same time of their request/reservation. The motion passed 6-0-0. b. Father’s Day Evans Family Cookout - 06/18/17 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Mrs. Pianowski motioned to approve the request from Syretta Evans for a Father’s Day Cookout on June 18, 2017. Mr. Grims seconded the motion. All were in favor. The motion passed 6-0-0. c. Maryland Stingers Women’s Rugby – Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Spring field opening date through 05/27/17- 7:30 p.m. until 9:30 pm  Mrs. Oarr stated that there were issues previously involving occupants failing to clean up after field usage. Ms. Fletcher stated that the requesting organization agreed to submit payment in lieu of cleaning.  Mrs. Oarr motioned to approve the Spring Field Use Request from the Maryland Stingers for 02/07/17 – 05/27/17, every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Mr. Grims seconded the motion. All were in favor. The motion passed 6-0-0. d. Prevention of Blindness Society (POB) of Metropolitan Washington-5K Run 09/17/17  POB has requested support from the City to hold a 5K and Fun Race in College Park. They are requesting suggestions on where to hold the race.  Board members discussed potential routes. Park Run Route, Paint Branch Park (behind Ritas), and North College Park (near Mom’s Market) were suggested.  Consensus was to have the POB contact the Park Run, Andrea Zokowski, and to Park and Planning to obtain a permit for Acredale Park. Sharon Fletcher will contact POB. VI. Recent Events a. Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute  Event went well at its new venue.  Approximately 100 attendees in addition to performing groups. b. Winter Bowling - 01/29/17  78 attendees  All agreed that the event should be held again next year. c. Attic Towers request for $450 for their Valentine DJ  Mrs. Oarr motioned to approve the request from Attic Towers for $200.00 to pay for the Valentine’s Day DJ. The total request was $450.00 to include $250 towards food. Mrs. Pianowski seconded the motion. All were in favor. The motion passed 6-0-0. 2 VII. Future Events a. UM Good Neighbor Day - 04/01/17 9:00 am-1:00 pm (Rain or Shine)  The event’s focus is to engage and involve community members and University of Maryland community; the goal is to recruit and pre-register 500 volunteers  Training is provided for designated project leaders  Ms. Fitzsimons provided updates and details about logistics: o Three University of Maryland campus beatification projects: 1) Planting (100 volunteers would be assigned) 2) Community Learning Garden (30 volunteers would be assigned) 3) Tawes Fine Arts Center-Landscaping (50 volunteers would be assigned) o Projects throughout the community: 1) Lake Artemesia- Invasive removal and planning (150 volunteers) 2) College Park Community Center-Forest Garden (30 volunteers) 3) Terps against Hunger - food drive- College Park Community Center designated drop off location 4) Cherokee Lane beautification 5) Frog Pond/Swamp – clean up of invasive species and litter. 6) Guilford Run – invasive species and litter clean-up 7) Partnering with College Park 5K and Park Run  Sharon Fletcher suggested promoting and connecting with students from local schools who are College Park residents to participate in the event. b. Bunny Brunch - 04/08/17 11:00 am-1:00 pm  Set up will be similar to Breakfast with Santa  Ms. Fitzsimons reported that entertainment has been confirmed; previously requested a formal flyer to support existing digital and social media marketing efforts c. Maryland Day – 04/29/17 10 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.  Board will have space on a table at the event which requires minimal preparation. Ms. Fletcher maintains flyer. A list of potential volunteers will be discussed during the next meeting. d. Fourth of July Band Selection & Rain Date Options for 07/04/2017  Rain date for band: if there is rain on 4th of July, what rain date should be considered and where should we host the concert. 2016 concert went well, but the location was not in the incorporated College Park. Can’t do it at the University because July 5th is a work day and the parking lot will not be available. Would like to suggest a location now so that it can be incorporated into the contact and advertisement could be announced prior to the event.  Ms. Fletcher will check with the American Legion on the cost of the band performance for July 5, 2017.  Mr. Adams suggested finding a venue that accommodates both fireworks and band performance on the same day. 3   Mr. Grims suggested the outdoor space near the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center for a location for the rain date. Mr. Grims will inquire about having the space put on hold and possible terms that would allow flexibility and no penalty in the event that the space is not used.  Board discussed and voted to schedule the band, The Night Life to perform on July 4, 2017 Mr. Bradford made a motion to approve The Night Life band for the 4th of July Fireworks event. Mrs. Pianowski seconded the motion. All were in favor. The motion passed 6-0-0. Book Festival - 3/25/17-10:00 am-3:00 pm  Held at College Park Community Center in the gym  Recreation Board sponsors Vendor opportunities to promote community events and services VIII. New Business a. College Park Community Center Summer Camp Program-Registration starts February 25, 2017  Ms. Fitzsimons advised that PG Parks would be hosting one week, fee based, camp sessions including: Cheerleading, Soccer, Basketball, Science Explorer, and Counselor In Training camps b. Community Connect  Mr. Occasion advised that all equipment requests for 2018 events must be submitted between August 1 - 31, 2017. There will be no guarantees for equipment if requested later in the year. When placing request, please be as detailed as possible. c. Committee Vacancies  We have two vacancies on the Board. Bi-laws does not require co-chairs  Mrs. Oarr motioned to nominate Mr. Toledo as the co-chair. Mrs. Pianowski seconded the motion. All were in favor. The motion passed 6-0-0. IX.
