Ms. Oppelt called the meeting to order at 7:07pm.
1. Approval of November Meeting Minutes: The minutes of the November 15, 2017
meeting were reviewed, and minor edits were made.
Motion: Adopt November meeting minutes with changes.
Moved: Dr. Lea-Cox Second: Mr. Krouse

2. Public Works Department Report: Ms. Alexander shared the following highlights:
• The play structure for 5-12 year old children at Davis playground was
installed and the project is complete.
• Submitted the grant reimbursement for the play structure at Davis
playground.
• The RFP tree canopy assessment went to the City attorney for review.
• The landscape crew is primarily working on street tree pruning in Cherry
Hill, Crystal Springs, Berwyn Heights, and Guilford Run. They are also
performing snow removal as needed.
• The Tree City USA certification application and the Plant Community
application were submitted.
• The Public Agency Roadside Tree annual blanket permit application was
submitted, and the City received the 2018 permit to work along streets.
• The MDE compost facility report was submitted along with the revised
operation plan. The compost yard was inspected and passed.
• Ms. Alexander has received her facility operator permit and is good for 2
years.
• Currently working on selecting a dog park location in the City.
3. Planning Report: Mr. Beavers shared the following highlights in regard to the City
Council worksession scheduled on February 6th:

• The Council will discuss how to effectively utilize advisory committees
• The Council will discuss the use of Duvall Field.
• The Council will provide an update on the approval of a license agreement for the
community garden at Calvert Hills.
4. CBE Report: Ms. Oppelt shared the following highlights:
• The Green Awards ceremony will be held on January 23rd.
• CBE is considering revising the categories for the Green Awards.
• The signs for the permaculture garden are almost complete.
• The committee set priorities for 2018 to conduct a tree pruning workshop with the
TLB and to provide more education on recycling.
• The committee is looking to provide seasonal tours of the permaculture garden.
• The committee held a discussion on having an energy efficiency workshop
focusing on the top 10 things to make your home energy efficient.
• The committee is looking for new ways to recognize people for the Green Awards.
5. Old Business
• Vegetation Control Ordinance
Ms. Alexander has submitted the committee’s recommendations to the Public
Works Director for the City Council worksession on February 20, 2018.
6. New Business
• Arbor Day
There was a suggestion to use Paint Branch elementary school as a location for
Arbor Day.
• Dog Park
There is interest to have a dog park located in North College Park. Duvall Field
seems to be a reasonable location, but doesn’t seem to be a favorable option.
Space along 51st near Indian Lane may be another location option.
• Suggestion to the City Council
The committee recommends the City Council add a standing agenda item to
formally accept the meeting minutes from each advisory committee.
7. Wrap Up
Mr. Krouse motioned to adjourn the meeting. Second by Ms. O’Brien. The meeting
adjourned at 8:40pm.
