Ms. Oppelt called the meeting to order at 7:05pm.
1. Old Business
a. Vegetation Control Ordinance
Mr. Ryan joined the meeting to seek recommendations from the Board to prepare for the
next City Council worksession. The Board reviewed the draft worksession agenda that
lists the suggested recommendations. The Board decided to remove the following
recommendations from the list:
• Establishing setbacks from property lines for the naturalized planting. Setbacks
could be variable on different sides of the property (front, side or rear). The set-
back area would need to be maintained at an identified lower height.
• Naturalized plantings might only be allowed in rear or side yard: not permitted in
front yard.
• A maximum plantable area for the naturalized landscape of the plantable area on
the lot (not occupied by buildings, structures, or other improvements) of the
property.
• Naturalized plantings are absent of identified noxious weeds, as identified in a
published state or governmental publication.
b. Arbor Day Event
Arbor Day will be held at Paint Branch Elementary on April 25, 2018 from 1-3pm.
2. Approval of January Meeting Minutes: The minutes of the January 17, 2018 meeting
were reviewed and minor edits were made.
Motion: Adopt January meeting minutes as amended. .

3. Public Works Department Report: Ms. Alexander shared the following highlights:
• Funds received from the grant reimbursement for the Davis play structure.
• The landscape crew are working on spring clean-up of landscape beds and
performed maintaince of tall vegetation along Guilford Run and Edmonston
Road.
• Removed Japanese Maple trees at Little Tavern Plaza and installed White Crape
Myrtles.
• Installed insulation inside the tree pots of the Myrtles to help them survive.
• Public Works is open on Saturdays in April for clean-up month.
• Received bids for Urban Tree Canopy Assessment.
• There are funds remaining in the TCEP program.
4. Planning Report: Mr. Beavers shared the following highlights:
• Toured site at Davis Hall for the dog park location.
5. CBE Report: Ms. Oppelt shared the following highlights:
• The Green Award ceremony went well.
• Signs for the permaculture garden are complete.
• One of the Good Neighbor Day projects is to clean up the permaculture garden.
• There was a visit from a county staff member to review a draft of the business
recycle legislation.
• Mr. Stewart in the sustainability office at University of Maryland visited with CBE
to discuss renewable energy goals.
• Rain barrel event scheduled in April.
• Recruiting volunteers for food waste/compost project during the Hollywood
Farmers Market.
6. Wrap Up/Next Meeting
Mr. Krouse motioned to adjourn the meeting. Second by Dr. Lea-Cox. The meeting
adjourned at 8:25pm.
The next scheduled meeting is on April 18, 2018 at 7:00pm.
