The City of Columbia City In Columbia County on the Columbia River PARKS COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES MAY 23, 2017 - 5:00 P.M. 1840 SECOND STREET, COLUMBIA CITY, OR 97018 Present: Sally Ann Marson, Chair Nell Harrison, Committee Member Stan Hopkins, Committee Member Jack Hruska, Committee Member Leahnette Rivers, City Administrator/Recorder Veterans Park: Leahnette said the Tribute to Families rock is in place at the park. She said the Public Works crew was unable to move the rock, which weighs nearly 8,000 pounds, with their equipment, but TFT Construction came to the rescue with one of their big front loaders. She said the rock is located at the south end of the branch monuments instead of near the flag pole due to the size of the equipment. Nell said the Garden Club has planted new annuals in the park and has it all cleaned up and ready to go. Leahnette said we are all ready for the Memorial Day Ceremony in the park. McBride Creek Trail System: Leahnette said she is working on a Recreational Trails Program grant application for design and construction of Phase I of the McBride Creek Trail System, and she is also preparing a request of Technical Assistance under the National Park Service Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance program for the full length of the planned trail. She will be coordinating with the Port of St. Helens, ODOT and private property owners on this portion of the project. Ruth Rose Richardson (RRR)/Pixie Parks: Leahnette reported that the prep work for the porta potty is complete and the unit is scheduled to be delivered this Thursday. She said the prep work was completed by two volunteers, and they might also be making the necessary modifications and repairs to Zone 1 of the irrigation system. Ivy/Blackberry Removal: Committee Members decided to select a day in September or October for the volunteer event. Members suggested we see if the Mormon Church volunteers might be willing to participate. 1 Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 5:30 p.m. to a field trip to walk the southeast area of the McBride Creek Trail Phase I near Yakima Court. 2
