The City of Columbia City In Columbia County on the Columbia River PARKS COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES May 10, 2022 - 6:00 P.M. City Hall Council Chambers – 1840 Second Street Present: Nell Harrison, Committee Member Micah Rogers, Public Works Superintendent Mike McGlothlin, City Administrator Sally Ann Marson, Citizen Yvonne Lewis, Citizen City Administrator, Mike McGlothlin, called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm. 1. Final update for the City’s Memorial Day Celebration; to be held on May 30, 2022: City Administrator Mike McGlothlin provided an update to the committee on the final stages of the planning and logistics for the Memorial Day Celebration. He said that initial work in these areas for this event are progressing with much of the logistical support being completed and that the event program is shaping up as it should be. 2. Status Review of City Parks: Public Works Superintendent Micah Rogers, after noting the wet spring weathers impact on park maintenance, provided the following update for the city’s parks: Veterans Park: Work has continued in prepping the park for the Memorial Day Celebration with the Columbia County Work Crew and Alonzo Lawn Maintenance scheduled to provide additional assistance during the week prior to the event. Gravel being moved, edging of grass borders within the park, the addition of bark dust as appropriate, and general lawn maintenance is planned to be completed during this time period. General Park Info: Wood chips are scheduled for being added to Harvard Park and the city’s Dog Park. Bark dust is also going to be added to City Hall and Hwy 30 city sign area. 3. Other Business: The following additional topics were also discussed by the committee:  The City Administrator asked about the timeline for the placement of the Trex bench that was given to the city by the Multnomah Chapter of the DAR at Bundy 1 Park. Superintendent Rogers said that the bench can be placed at any time and that he would email the Parks Committee to get an approved location within the park.  Yvonne Lewis, on behalf of the Columbia City Elementary School, attended the meeting to discuss a city park service project idea between the school and the city. After discussion the idea of a park adoption between the school and the city for Datis Park was tentatively agreed upon. Ms. Lewis is going to seek approval of the idea from the school’s principal and the committee will continue working on making this plan achievable. 4. Discussion regarding date for next meeting: The next meeting of the Parks Committee was set for Saturday June 25, 2022, at 9:00 am at Harvard Park for the scheduled work party. 5. Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 6:38 pm. 2
