Call To Order/Roll Call Meeting called to order at 5:59 p.m. Attendees: Steve Douglas, Bruce Emery, Aaron Franek, Brent Loomis, Justin Maillet, Bret Walker, Jacob Wilson Absent: Dana Bond, Brendan Binns, Jadie Carson Staff Members Present: Carolyn Keith, Karen O'Donnell, Chad Redin, Jodi Hardee, Amy Hendricks 2. Approval of Minutes A motion was made by Member Loomis to approve the February 21, 2017 minutes as submitted. The motion was seconded by Co-Chair Maillet. VOTE: Unanimous This was approved 3. Unfinished Business 16-57 New & existing recreation centers (Facility Naming process and timeline) Attachments: PRESENTATION 10-18-16 YOUR HUB ARTICLE Communications Specialist, Jodi Hardee distributed the list of name submissions for the existing and new recreation centers. Updated lists will be sent to committee members before the April 18 meeting. Members will review the submissions and mark their top choices to review at the next meeting. The goal of the committee is to put forward 3 - 5 naming recommendations for each facility to City Council (tentatively set for May 22). Director Carolyn Keith approved multiple awards for contest winners if there are multiple submissions of the same name. This Administrative Business was continued 17-19 Update/feedback existing Recreation Center Changes Attachments: NEW REC CENTER AND INFRASTRUCTURE UPDATE Director Keith provided an update on conceptual ideas regarding the exterior site plan - Parking additions; increased to 153 from 148 - Move city vehicle parking to Forest Drive side Commerce City Page 1 Parks, Recreation, and Golf Meeting Minutes - Final March 21, 2017 Advisory Committee - Installing a canopy over the main entrance off 60th Avenue - Pedestrian Safety - Improve traffic flow and drop off area Recreation Supervisor, Chad Redin provided an update on conceptual interior remodel/expansion designs - Moving the registration desk to the existing administrative area - Relocating the lobby desk by the glass next to the pool - Closing the Parkway Drive building entrance and adding a conference room; which would be available for the public to reserve - Addition of a technology lab - Remodeling of locker rooms - Addition of a family locker room - Addition of wet/dry changing cabanas - Addition of a therapy pool - Potential of eliminating the steam room - New cardio and free weight room behind gymnastics gymnasium - Relocating two racquet ball courts and eliminating the existing 3rd court - Addition of a yoga/spinning studio Note: The consensus of the committee was to eliminate the steam room during the renovation of the existing recreation center This Administrative Business was continued 4 New Business 17-20 Recreation Center Facility Fees/Charges Attachments: PARKS RECREATION AND GOLF FEES Recreation Manager, Karen O'Donnell gave a slide show overview on the purpose and general philosophy of programs offered and facility charges at local metro area facilities (attached). The committee discussed fees for each facility and there was support for increasing fees in general for drop-in rates. The committee was asked to come to a consensus on the following questions: 1) Should fees be comparable to neighboring communities with similar facilities/amenities (Brighton, Thornton, Denver)? Would you support a modest fee increase based on these findings? Answer: YES 2) Should fees be the same for the new and existing recreation centers or based on center amenities? Answer: YES (the same for both centers) 3) Should we differentiate between resident and non-resident? Answer: YES 4) Do you believe existing fees are affordable and representative of the value of service? Answer: YES A motion was made by Member Loomis to increase resident rates to be comparable to other facilities with similar amenities. Co-Chair Maillet seconded the motion. (Note: Member Douglas did not vote as he had left the meeting). VOTE: 5 aye, 1 nay (Wilson). The motion passed. Co-Chair Walker seconded the motion. VOTE: 5 aye, 1 nay (Maillet). The motion passed. This Administrative Business was continued 5 Committee Member Reports and Information Committee Members shared general information and updates.
