Parkway Drive Commerce City, CO 80022 1. Call To Order/Roll Call/Pledge of Allegiance Meeting called to order at 6:08 p.m. Attendees: Clark Berggren, Brendan Binns, Steve Douglas, Bruce Emery, Alejandro Garcia, Josh Houde, Adam Venanzi, Bret Walker Absent: Mary Hogan Chan, Steve Davis, Justin Maillet, Paul Welander, Jacob Wilson Staff Present: Carolyn Keith, Karen O’Donnell, Paul Hebinck, Maria Jepson 2. Approval of Minutes Prior to the PRG Announcements a motion was made by Member Houde seconded by Member Emery to approve the June 18, 2019 minutes as submitted. Vote: Unanimous. The motion passed. This was approved 3. New Business 19-47 Inclusion Policy - Karen O'Donnell Attachments: INCLUSION POLICY PRESENTATION Recreation Manager, Karen O’Donnell reviewed the Inclusion Policy presentation. Currently two in five Parks & Recreation agencies have a formal inclusion policy. Challenges include funding, staffing, adequate facility space and training. She shared reasons that support the importance for having such a policy as well as the key components of our policy and reviewed the Commerce City Parks, Recreation & Golf Inclusion Policy Draft. Member Berggren and others shared some of their recent experiences with various forms of inclusion and exclusion that exist. Let the record show Member Houde joined the meeting at 6:12 p.m. This Administrative Business was continued 4. City Council Member Updates Councilman Douglas shared that at the July 15, 2019 Council meeting there were nine resolutions passed; one was for a $750K Adams County grant and overall there were $3.2 million in funds designated. Thursday, July 18th is Music in the Park at Southlawn. Fall grant cycle in process. Member Emery made a motion for Co-Chair Walker to advance the letters of support to the Adams County Open Space Advisory Board for the consideration of grant funds; motion seconded by Member Berggren. Vote: Unanimous. The motion passed. 6. Committee Member Reports & Information Member Garcia inquired about installing permanent public restroom elements at certain parks and there was some discussion of the challenges such as cost, inappropriate use, and maintenance. He indicated that he has some knowledge in this area and may possibly be able to share ideas regarding options that other cities are utilizing. Member Emery shared a draft of the six-panel stainless steel structure public art element that is proposed for Fronterra Park and indicated that there is interest from the Senior Commission to collaborate with other boards and commissions where possible. Let the record show Member Binns joined the meeting at 7:06 p.m. Clark Berggren was introduced as the newest committee member appointed this month. He briefly shared a bit about himself and his interest in the PRG Advisory Committee. Co-Chair Walker welcomed and thanked him for his interest, participation and commitment. 7. PRG Announcements Distributed to all members via email on July 12, 2019 and available on www.c3gov.com. The 12th Annual Fishing Frenzy Derby has been rescheduled for September 28, 2019. Golf Course Manager, Paul Hebinck, spoke of the PGA Hope program that started in July. It is a six-week program that developed from a partnership with the Colorado section of the PGA. This year there are 94 active duty, veteran, or retired military participants, which is up from the 43 that registered last year. The program offers golf clinics, skill formation, interactive support and relationship building with a banquet at the conclusion. The Buffalo Run Golf Course lake dredge project is underway and scheduled to wrap up around the end of July. PRG Staff Update: Recreation Manager, Karen O’Donnell’s last day with the City of Commerce City is July 19, 2019. She will be the new Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Wheat Ridge, CO as of July 25, 2019. Members congratulated and thanked Karen for all that she has done and been a part of here over the past eight years. 8.
