Historic Zoning Commission

COOKEVILLE HISTORIC ZONING COMMISSION JULY 9, 2002 5:30 P.M. The Cookeville Historical Commission met on Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 45 East Broad Street, Cookeville, TN 38501. MEMBERS PRESENT: Don Prince, Calvin Dickinson, and Mary Jean Delozier. MEMBERS ABSENT: Greg Stamps and Alma Anderson. STAFF PRESENT: James Mills and Jayne Barns. OTHERS PRESENT: Ted Darwin, Gil Fernandez, George H. Johnson, and Maurine Patton. They are all members of the Upper Cumberland Genealogical Association. WELCOME NEW MEMBER – MARY JEAN DELOZIER. Don Prince welcomed new member Mary Jean Delozier to the Commission. CONSIDER FOR APPROVAL THE MINUTES OF APRIL 9, 2002. Calvin Dickinson made the motion to approve the minutes of April 9, 2002. Mary Jean Delozier seconded the motion and the motion carried unanimously. APPROVED. DISCUSSION ON PLACEMENT OF HISTORIC MARKER FOR TOWN SPRING. James Mills stated that Ted Darwin with the Upper Cumberland Genealogical Association would like to get approval for the placement of a Historic Marker for the Town Spring and endorsement from the Historic Zoning Commission for this project. It was decided that the best place for the marker would be on a concrete slab located west of the sidewalk where the original walkway was for the Town Spring. Calvin Dickinson made the motion to endorse the Historic Marker for the Town Spring. Mary Jean Delozier seconded the motion and the motion carried unanimously. APPROVED-ENDORSEMENT OF HISTORIC MARKER. DISCUSSION ON REQUIREMENTS FOR CERTIFIED LOCAL GOVERNMENT PROGRAM. James Mills distributed copies of the Certified Local Government agreement and reviewed the program with the Commission. The City of Cookeville is Tennessee’s twenty-fifth Certified Local Government. Tara Mitchell Mielnik has agreed to set up a training session for the Cookeville Historic Zoning Commission. Mr. Mills will set up a date for the training with Mrs. Mielnik. There was some discussion by the Board about researching the Town Spring and seeing if it would be possible to restore the original Town Spring or have some type of permanent monument. HISTORIC ZONING COMMISSION 2 JULY 9, 2002 Mr. Mills stated that there might be grant money available for the project as part of the Certified Local Government Program. He will check with Mrs. Mielnik when she comes to the training session to see what options are available. Mary Jean Delozier made the motion to research the Town Spring.
