Old Business a. Murals (submission process, prospective site locations, map of existing mural, brochures, database?) Mural Tour brochure: Edits may be needed such as tinging/zooming of images. Zu Gallery should be mentioned. Beach and West would like to change the font because it is hard to read. Notah Dineh is not on the Mural Tour. Submission Process: West proposed a database similar to Historic Brochure is commercial but our database can include residential and commercial. If a business wants to put a mural on the side of the wall they are permitted to per West. It is their responsibility for upkeep. Steinberg and Regalado mentioned that no lettering is permitted on murals; at that point it is signage and a City Permit is required. b. Skatepark Mural – next steps? Per West, a letter from Desiree reads that structural repairs are still behind schedule and will not happen until next year. We will revisit in January and continue to have a running update. West will reach out to Desiree to get contacts. c. Facebook Page – did we transfer access? Rogers has ownership of the page; West recommended to retire page and give it to City of Cortez for Historical Archives. This does not mean we are going to shut the page down. d. Third Thursday debrief & plan for September 17 Our last Third Thursday was successful. Present committee members took photo with raffle winner. For the upcoming Third Thursday, West and Beach can help cover the September booth. West has leaves she can print out to have children color and write what they are ‘Grate FALL’ for. Beach will make a tree base. Signage; They need a board that something can be attached to. Rogers will bring a piece of plywood for signage attachment. Beach will take Cortez Public Art Advisory Committee (CPAAC) Agenda Sept 11, 2023, 5 PM Cortez City Hall, Mesa Verde Room care of lettering for temporary signage. Committee will also need lawn chairs, mason jar for raffle, weights for paper, duct tape, clipboards, baskets for Matt’s cards, and contact information form. 5. New Business a. Resignation of Committee Member Sam Combs has resigned because she has acquired new employment. One space and a student space is currently open. b. CCA meeting & 81321 Launch Update West; CCA are interested in us gathering a network of creator. We can possibly use this committee to choose recipients of a grant from. Quiroz; They encouraged us to go through the City to get fiscal box checked. LOR kicked in $12,000 with the intent there would be member buy in. CREA has a mural walk brochure. 81321 launch was difficult to find; we need to think about how to attract people and how they could apply. Ask LOR for $12,000, but also ask them for rotating budget. Rogers; Crea was going to pay for a member of this committee to sit on the board which would have been sponsored. West suggested a motion to revamp 81321 for $12,000. Motion made by Quiroz seconded by Beach. Rogers said we will bring it back up when West returns for the next meeting since she had to leave before the meeting commenced. Quiroz has a concern about continued funding for project in the future. Quiroz feels that the arts district ceiling is higher and feels the $10,000 for the City is more important to address first. c. Cortez Cultural Center Update; Rotary had a heavy buy in to start off with. Quiroz has decided to join Rotary so we do not lose the Cultural Center. Rogers; Teetzle is stepping away from Rotary leadership. We are worried about losing the Center. West and Regalado will reach out to the Cultural Center and gather a neutral take on where they stand. Possibly reach out to Linda Towle with Historic Preservation Board. 6. Update from Committee Members; Quiroz; Sunflower Theatre has fully funded the projector and it will be installed in November. 7. Adjourn 8. Next Meeting: Monday, October 2, 2023 @ 5:00 PM
