Cortez Public Art Advisory Committee (CPAAC) October 2, 2023, 5 PM - MINUTES Cortez City Hall, Mesa Verde Room Attendance: Matt Josef, Sascha Steinberg, Anne Beach, David Rainey, Helen West Guests: Deryl & Liz, Matt’s parents 1. Call to Order - 5:05 PM 2. Introduction of those present a. Public Input/Comments: None b. Drawing for Third Thursday Prize: artist, Matt Josef drew Oscar M. Helen will email pictures of prize drawing from last month. 3. Approval of Minutes from September 11, 2023, meeting: moved by Tai, Seconded by Sascha 4. Old Business a. Murals – database & submission/revoke applications i. Helen showed the applications for mural submission & revoke. Next step is to OK them with City Attorney and C&ED Director. Tai thinks there might be a historical database, Helen will check the Google Drive. b. Skatepark Mural i. No update, DH gave me all the contact, will connect with Creighton in early January c. Third Thursday debrief & plan for September 2024 i. Third Thursday its done! In September approximately 1,000 people attended. ii. There is discussion of the Public Arts Committee to take the event over. Members caution that this board is an advisory board and that to plan an event like Third Thursday takes 1 dedicated staff and tons of emails, promotional activities and 15-20 per month. However, Third Thursday is a perfect avenue for public outreach. Helen will continue to discuss next year’s Third Thursday with Creighton at Parks & Rec, Erik at KSJD and AJ at CREA. The Arts Committee will still be involved (hopefully every month) if not helping run the event. d. Committee Vacancies – youth & 1 member i. Tai feels we should get a representative from Turquoise Raven arts gallery, Sascha agreed to talk with her. Nicolas Sander – Theater & Drama director at MCHS, invited the Arts Committee to come to a Drama Leadership Meeting. Tai will reach out to schedule a time. e. Cortez Cultural Center i. The finances at CCC are not good, however they are moving ahead with a Coffee Shop. The soft opening will be on October 6th. CCC is hoping the  Cortez Public Art Advisory Committee (CPAAC) October 2, 2023, 5 PM - MINUTES Cortez City Hall, Mesa Verde Room coffee shop will bring in regular revenue and more awareness to the Center. They are applying for a History Colorado State Grant to replace the roof. Cortez City Council and the Historic Preservation Council are assisting this grant request. The Citizen Institute for Rural Design – was for plaza improvements, however with Becky gone Tom Hooten was supposed to reach out to the grant funder. f. CCA & 81321 Launch Update – No Update 5. New Business - NONE 6. Update from Committee Members a. Sascha – Tickets for Cortez Ghost Tours are LIVE $10, immersive popsicle at KSJD.org. Tours on Thursday 10/26 will end at Zu Gallery, Friday 10/27 will end at the Sunflower Theater for the double feature, Rocky Horror & Phantom of the Menace and Saturday will end at Wild Edge. Tickets for the tours are available at sunflowertheater.org or cortezghosttours.org b. Helen – Oct 6 First Friday Mural Tour c.
