Cortez Public Art Advisory Committee (CPAAC) MINUTES November 6, 2023, 5 PM Cortez City Hall, Mesa Verde Room Attendance: Erik Quiroz, KSJD, Sascha Steinberg, David Rainey, Anne Beach, Helen West, Tai Rogers, Ellis McNichol (guest), Lauren (guest) 1. Call to Order 5:07 PM 2. Introduction of those present a. Public Input/Comments b. Presentation of Third Thursday Prize c. Ellis McNichol from Pinon Project – youth advocate & mentor, youth do not have access to the arts, goal is to put together a youth winter art gallery/show, January/February, potentially hosting in the Cortez Cultural Center. 3. Approval of Minutes from October 2, 2023, meeting Move: Anne, Second: Sascha 4. Old Business a. Murals – database & submission/revoke applications – Helen should connect with CREA to add City landing page to the mural brochure. Brief discussion on creating a phone app or website for guided walking tour. Durango is building a Pokémon-Go style app for tourism in Durango. b. Skatepark Mural (no update) c. Third Thursday – Structure of Third Thursday is under review and could be a potential funding mechanism for a Creative District. Next steps: Helen will talk to Dept. Heads to explore an MOU possibility. d. Committee Vacancies – youth & 1 member – ongoing, Tai will continue organizing a meeting with the MCHS Drama Team. e. Cortez Cultural Center – the coffee shop is open! Everybody Eats went well, unsure financial stability. Helen will look into the Trust of Hawkins Preserve. f. CCA & 81321 Launch Update – meeting with LOR about 81321 Launch, to see if funding is still viable. 5. New Business a. Historic Preservation Day & Historic Cortez Coloring Book – everyone is in favor b. Creative Survey FB post – everyone in favor 6. Update from Committee Members a. Cortez Ghost Tours/Squirrel Congress – SOLD OUT! 4 tours, 14 tickets per tour, proceeds went to the Sunflower Theater. It will be back next year! b. KSJD/Sunflower Theater – very busy October, participated in the Ghost Tours and the Marcel the Shell with shoes on, double feature, purchased a projector system, first run movies (art house movie theater) – December! c. City of Cortez – no updates d.
