Cortez Public Art Advisory Committee (CPAAC) Minutes March 4, 2024, 5 PM Cortez City Hall, Mesa Verde Room Attendance: Tai Rogers, Matt Josef, Lydia Regalado, Sascha Steinberg, Eric Quiroz, Helen West, Jacob McIntosh, Ellis McNichol 1. Call to Order: 5:00P 2. Introduction of those present a. Public Input/Comments: None 3. Approval of Minutes from February 5, 2024, meeting: Approved 4. Old Business a. Skatepark Mural (no update) b. Third Thursday update: Quiroz is waiting to see if he will be contracted to help run Third Thursday. c. 81321 Launch Update: Review website and flyers created by West were critiqued by the board. Applications are open and there is already one submission. d. Historic Cortez Coloring Book – results & RFP for graphic designer: West: Quiroz and Josef participated in the selection committee, which went well. There were 70 applicants, and selections were narrowed down to 28 coloring pages and one cover page. An RFP will be put out by the end of the week with the hopes of printing by May for Historic Preservation Weekend on May 3rd and 4th. e. CCA Logos: Steinberg: No update. 5. New Business a. First Friday: We talked about our proposed involvement in this and decided that we will share opportunities with our database of local artists and makers. Helen is following up with AJ. b. 2024 Goals & Work Plan: Attached 6. Update from Committee Members Rogers: Futures Fair (job fair for the highschool), is tomorrow, 80 businesses and over 300 students will be in attendance. Cortez Public Art Advisory Committee (CPAAC) Minutes March 4, 2024, 5 PM Cortez City Hall, Mesa Verde Room Steinberg: Ghost tours will launch the first weekend in May. Merch is being produced and will be for sale. Cortez Coven packet is being designed to distribute to local businesses that they are working with. Quiroz: The buildout in January for the new projector was successful. Audio and Video calibration was also successful. Today, the Sunflower Theatre received a confirmation A24 that they are good to do the first movie, ‘stop making sense,’ which will show on March 15th - they have already sold 30 tickets as of this morning. Now that they have the ability, the theater will start showing many more films. They petitioned Disney to show reparatory and first run films, which has not been allowed in the past, usually a theater has to pick one or the other. They have a few tentative deals for satellite screening. West: There will be a training about enterprise tax credits that West will host next week on March 13th. McIntosh: Played a show at the sunflower which went well and inventory was taken. Ellis: Regarding the Youth Art Event, they received 60 responses on the survey and the outcome is - there will be four workshops starting the Friday after Spring Break 3/29, 4/5, 4/12, and 4/19 from 10a-12p. Themes will be; painting and spray painting, clay, performance art, anime art. The exhibition is tentative to be on Thursday 4/5. They are in need of volunteers, artist support and connections, and getting the word out. All workshops and exhibitions will be at Good Sams in Cortez. Themes are still being discussed to gauge where the interest is. 7. Adjourn: 6:09PM 8.
