CITY OF CORTLAND LANDSCAPE AND DESIGN COMMISSION MINUTES – September 11, 2014 Mayor’s Conference Room at 4:00 p.m. Members Present: Mike Dexter (Chair), Suzanne Etherington, Theresa Quail, Paul Paradine, Ann Doyle, Diane Batzing Approve the July 10, 2014 Minutes: Comm. Quail, 1st; Comm. Etherington, 2nd Tree and Stump Removals The tree and stump removal allocation is not sufficient to handle all of the City’s needs, and this makes it difficult for accommodating residents’ requests. DEC Grant Resolution Following Council approval, the mayor has signed the necessary forms for Thoma to submit that allow our Urban Forestry grant to proceed. NYSEG Charles St. Project Comm. Paradine informed the Commission that the project has been postponed due to many other projects. The City has approved the variance for locating the gas regulator station to the rear of the property. Comm. Paradine has requested plantings for the site, as well as an artist’s painting for the front of the station. In addition, there will be a concrete pad for mounting a chimney swift tower. Comm. Paradine and NYSEG will be mulching the current trees at the site. 2015 Tree Program Planning Several lists of suggested trees were reviewed. Recent Tree Concerns/Notes Comm.
