Library Board

Johnson Public Library Board of Directors Meeting Monday October 27, 2025 1. Call to order by President Sonja Wiegel at 6:30 p.m 2. Roll Call- Cindy Corley, Sonja Wiegel, Matt Walter, Patti Taylor, Janet Trout, Alex Santacruz, and John Knellwolf. Absent- Carly Winslow 3. Motion the meeting notice and agenda were properly posted- Motion by Matt and seconded by Alex. Motion carried. 4. Approval of previous meeting minutes- Motion by Matt and seconded by Cindy to approve all previous meeting minutes from September 22, 2025. Motion carried 5. Comments and suggestions from citizens or other parties interested present-none 6. Unfinished business of the board from previous meeting: Discussion and action , if necessary concerning the proposed 2026 Budget. Motion by Cindy and seconded by John to approve the library budget as presented for a total of $175,328.80. Motion approved. Janet gave an update concerning the Children’s Book Council Books, There are 47 more books to come in for a total of approximately 600 books. 20% of the books will be donated. The library will keep the rest. Janet gave a report on the library and past events- Please see enclosed report. And also see enclosed report for upcoming library events for November. 7. New business. Discussion on Library Vision and Mission Statements. These need to reviewed every 5 years. Last reviewed in 2021. Motion to approve as presented by Alex and seconded by Cindy. Motion carried. Discussion on Winter Weather Policy- This will be updated to Johnson Public Library Closing Policy. It will include City of Darlington Holidays, Inclement Weather, Emergency Closures and when a closure occurs, what steps will be taken by the library director to notify the public and scheduled staff. Motion to approve policy with mentioned changes by Matt and second by John. Discussion on Mobile Library Policy- The library maintains a mobile library program that serves the local homeschool co-op group. This program could extend to others area such as the manor in the future. With this, a policy will need to be created. This  policy is similar to current library policy. Motion to approve by John and seconded by Patti. Motion carried. Discussion was held on the upcoming library closing over the Thanksgiving holiday. The library will be closed from Thursday November 27 through Sunday November 30, 2025. Motion by Matt and seconded by Cindy. Motion carried. Discussion held on the probationary period for the library director. The 6 month probationary will end the last week of December. The board will hold a closed session to discuss at the December 22, 2025 library board meeting. Discussion on the September 2025 vouchers was held. Motion to approve by Cindy and seconded by John. Motion carried. 8. The November library board meeting will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 6:30 PM, and the December library board meeting will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025, at 6:30 PM. 9.
