CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm. 2. ROLL CALL: Also present: Planning & Development Director, Chris Bowley, AICP; Planning & Development Assistant Director, Ron Paradise and Administrative Assistant, Kathrine Kyp. APPROVAL OF MINUTES & AGENDA: Minutes of July 6, 2017. Motion by Troy Shimkus, seconded by James Diehl, to approve the Minutes of July 6, 2017. PUBLIC FORUM: 6. OLD BUSINESS: Discussion: Conclusion on carport discussion. City of Deltona Page 1 Printed on 8/16/2017 Ordinance Review Committee Minutes August 3, 2017 Discussion occurred regarding regulating carports and temporary carports to building code standards and the safety hazards they pose. It was determined that regulating the temporary carports would be time intensive and difficult for City staff to implement. Several members suggested educating the residents about proper construction of temporary carports and accomplishing it by inserting the messages inside the Deltona Water bills. Motion by Troy Shimkus, seconded by Sonjia Kihlmire, to ask the City Commission to not add additional regulations on temporary carports but ask the Commission to look at producing a public announcement to inform people of best practices around anchoring temporary carports. The motion carried by the following vote: For: 5 - Vice Chair Kihlmire, Member Taulbee, Chair Taylor, Member Avila-Vazquez and Member Shimkus Against: 1 - Member Diehl 7. NEW BUSINESS: 8.
