Tom called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. and welcomed everyone.
MacKensie took roll call.
Jenny introduced the newest ADA board member, Dan Fenn who is the safety/transportation
director for Mulvane Public Schools.
Committee members looked over the minutes from the previously meeting and no changes were
suggested.
Jenny introduced Mayor Randy White. The Mayor stated that he is attending a meeting of each
of the City boards as it is his responsibility to get to know the boards and what they do. He
recommended that the ADA board tour Madison Avenue Central Park prior to its opening, as
that would be a good project for the board to be a part of. Tom stated that it is great having a
City staff that supports the ADA effort. The Mayor then exited the meeting.
Jenny then provided each member with a copy of the ADA board mission statement and told
committee members that whenever a new member is appointed to the board, she likes to review
the mission statement. Jenny also briefly overviewed the current transition plan, showing
members what ADA accommodations have been made at City facilities and what changes will
still be completed. Next, the ADA board ordinance was passed out to committee members.
Jenny told members the ordinance explains the purpose of the board and the role the board has
within the City.
Jenny then provided members with a draft version of an ADA brochure the board has previously
created and is still reviewing. The brochure includes information on tax credits and the newly
created ADA award program. The award application and rules are still in development. Jenny
shared with the board that she is able to obtain a list of Derby businesses email addresses and
distributing the form by email would eliminate any mailing costs. A few names were considered
for the award program, ADA Impact Award and ADA Booster. Also, ideas of a letter of
appreciation, or a “key to the City” were discussed as items to be awarded.
Tom then shared with the committee his idea to have the next sensitivity training recorded, so
we can share with employees who are unable to attend and possibly any Derby business that
would want to share with their employees.
Tom Also brought to the attention of the committee a dumpster that was blocking an ADA
accessible parking spot. Dale stated that he would look into it.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
