APPROVED SUMMARY MINUTES SENIOR SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD 10:00 A.M. October 1, 2014 CITY OF DERBY ROLL CALL GERALD BROWNLEE JIM BURGESS TOM DAVIDSON JACK HEMPHILL-ABSENT DUANE DAY DIANE SCHMITT -ABSENT ELEANOR UNDERWOOD CITY STAFF TED AUSTIN DEE WILLIAM KIM HART Public Forum Agenda Item #1 RE: Ted Austin. Dee Williams introduced Ted Austin to the Advisory Board. Ted explained he is replacing Stephanie Knebel and is who Dee will report to. Ted said he will be in attendance at the Advisory Board meetings as needed. RE: Dine & Deal. Dee Williams stated Dine & Deal was a big success. Dee read a thank you note from a patron who attended. Discussion was held. RE: Exercise Class Instructors. Eleanor Underwood stated Diane Schmitt & I like the exercise classes and wished they were led by an instructor. Dee Williams said she and Laura Friend will work on this. RE: Senior Services Signage. Ted Austin stated the lighted sign on Madison has vinyl letters that read Senior Services. Alan Frost Public Works will change this to read Senior Center. The letters on the front of the building were installed by George Lay Sign Company and they are working on a cost estimate. Ted said the way finding signs are targeted so the driver passing by can read them safely and are meant to direct people to the Welcome Center for more specific location directions. He said at this point there will be no changes to the signs. Ted stated additional signs would be a distraction. Discussion was held. Eleanor Underwood stated the Board appreciated Ted’s explanation, and his attention to the signs here which will be very helpful. Tom Davidson asked why the skate board park has its own signs and why is it more important than the Senior Center? Ted stated the skate board park is in a location by itself. Jim Burgess stated he appreciates Ted’s effort in this regard and any change made is an improvement. Jim said if there is anything the 1 Board needs to do to help please let them know. Ted said the manager has it on radar if and when changes are made to the way finding sign system, then she will consider a change or if it is still the best bang for the buck for all they are trying to do. Agenda Item #2 RE: Advisory Board Fund report for September 2014. Duane Day reported expenses were $2,604.38, revenue $607.53 with an ending balance for June of $15,984.21. MOTION: Jim Burgess moved to receive and file the Advisory Board Fund report for August 2014. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 4 yea, motion carried. Agenda Item #3 RE: Approve September 2014 Advisory Board Meeting minutes. Jim Burgess stated his name was misspelled on page one Item one. MOTION: Duane Day made a motion to approve the corrected minutes from September 2014. Gerald Brownlee seconded. VOTE: 4 yea, motion carried. Agenda Item #4 RE: Derby Dash Scholarship Fund Report. Dee Williams reviewed the Derby Dash Scholarship Fund report; $75 in scholarships were used in September with a balance $249.33. MOTION: Gerald Brownlee moved to receive and file the September 2014 Derby Dash Scholarship Fund report. Duane Day seconded. VOTE: 4 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #5 RE: October TNT – Mexican Taco Casserole. Tom Davidson reported the October TNT will take place on October 7th. The menu is Mexican Taco Casserole (Not Spicy), Spanish rice, Salad & Dessert. Tom stated 60 patrons have already signed up to attend. Agenda Item #6 RE: Ping Bot. 2 Dee Williams stated on the WSU Ping Bot Driving Study is open. Dee stated there is a volunteer facilitator doing all the appointment scheduling. Agenda Item #7 RE: Lunch Coupon Program. Dee Williams stated the Lunch Coupon Program provides lunch coupons to pay for the Red Cross lunches. Dee asked for a $100 donation to the Lunch Coupon Program. Discussion was held. MOTION: Gerald Brownlee made a motion the Board to donate $100 to the Lunch Coupon Program. Jim Burgess seconded. VOTE: 4 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #8 RE: Derby Dash Scholarships. Dee asked the Board to donate $500 to the Derby Dash Scholarship fund. MOTION: Gerald Brownlee made a motion for the Board to donate $500 to the Derby Dash Scholarship fund. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 3 yea, 1 nay, motion carried ADJOURNMENT MOTION: Duane Day made a motion for adjournment. Gerald Brownlee seconded. VOTE: 4 yea, motion carried Meeting adjourned at 10:35 A.M.
