APPROVED MINUTES SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY BOARD 10:05 AM June 7th, 2017 CITY OF DERBY ROLL CALL GERALD BROWNLEE JANICE NEAGLE JIM BURGESS DIANE SCHMITT, TREASURER TOM DAVIDSON, SECRETARY ELEANOR UNDERWOOD, CHAIR DUANE DAY, VICE CHAIR CITY STAFF TED AUSTIN - ABSENT BREANNA MONK KIM HART Public Forum Agenda Item #1 RE: Active Age Publication BreAnna Monk read a thank you note to the Board for their donation to the Active Age publication. RE: Senior Employment Program BreAnna Monk let the Board know that June 14th the Senior Employment Program will start at the Senior Center. The city is also promoting this program for the Senior Center. RE: Diabetes Program BreAnna let the Board know on June 14th she will be speaking to the Lions Club about building a new style of diabetes program here at the center. Nationally their program is called “Age Out Loud” and we are supposed to come up with activities and programs that are new. BreAnna explained the class details to the Board which includes a meal preparation and a free diabetes monitor. RE: July Can We Talk BreAnna explained that she will be the host of the July Can We Talk. The program will be an open forum for participant’s questions. RE: Department on Aging Funding Jim Burgess said he had an observation and he is on the Department on Aging Council and there are four or five other senior centers that may receive additional funding. 1 Agenda Item #2 RE: Advisory Board Fund Report May 2017 Diane Schmitt gave the Advisory Board Fund Report for May 2017. The expenses for May totaled $804.53 and the income was $380 with an ending balance of $19,506.42. MOTION: Gerald Brownlee moved to approve and file the Advisory Board Fund Report for April 2017. Duane Day seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #3 RE: Approve May 3rd, 2017 Minutes MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion to approve the minutes from the May 3rd, 2017 Derby Senior Center Advisory Board meetings. Duane Day seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #4 RE: Approve May 2017 Derby Dash Scholarship Report BreAnna Monk gave the report for the May 2017 Derby Dash Scholarship Report. $24 used in scholarships which leaves an ending balance of $319. MOTION: Diane Schmitt made a motion to approve the Derby Dash Scholarship Report for May 2017. Gerald Brownlee seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried RE: Derby Dash Donations BreAnna presented to the Board an opportunity to help a couple school aged children get transportation to the Derby Middle School for free lunches through the summer months. Discussion was held MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion to deny the requested donation from the Board for the two children. Duane Day seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried 2 Agenda Item #5 RE: April 2017 TNT BreAnna Monk stated the May TNT was Beef Enchiladas with a total profit of $165.99. The total patrons and volunteers served were 81 MOTION: Duane Day made a motion to approve the TNT Report for May 2017 and to cancel the July and August TNT. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #6 RE: Suggestions/ Comment Cards BreAnna Monk read all the Suggestion/ Comment Cards to the Advisory Board. Discussion was held on each card. It was agreed the suggestions could be posted in the Prime Times Newsletter. Agenda Item #7 RE: Chicken Duty Jim Burgess picked up the chicken for the June Covered Dish Lunch. Gerald Brownlee is in charge of picking up the chicken for the July Covered Dish Lunch. Agenda Item #8 RE: Code of Meeting Procedures & Rules of Conduct BreAnna Monk presented to the Board the Code of Meeting Procedure and Rules of Conduct & Code of Ethics. She explained that after reviewing the Board suggestions Ted Austin made a few changes. MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion to approve the Code of Meeting Procedures with the changes suggested. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried ADJOURNMENT MOTION: Duane Day made a motion for adjournment. Janice Neagle seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried.
