APPROVED MINUTES SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY BOARD CITY OF DERBY July 11, 2018, 10:15 AM ROLL CALL GERALD BROWNLEE JANICE NEAGLE JIM BURGESS DIANE SCHMITT, TREASURER TOM DAVIDSON, SECRETARY - ABSENT ELEANOR UNDERWOOD, CHAIR DUANE DAY, VICE CHAIR CITY STAFF TED AUSTIN - ABSENT BREANNA MONK KIM HART Public Forum Agenda Item #1 RE: Transit Feasibility Study BreAnna Monk stated the Feasibility Study is trying to connect Haysville and the other small cities to Derby. In the meeting they presented 2 alternatives; The first alternative is to have designated bus stops to help the Derby Dash. This is being called Route 23. The second option will connect Route 23 and it will have a transition stop up by 47th street at the WATC parking lot. That route will also connect Haysville to the City of Derby. BreAnna said they will be speaking with business owners and city of Derby employees. The web site is connectingks.com. Discussion was held. BreAnna said there was also a suggestion of a Unity Card that could be used by all riders. RE: Mill Levy Application BreAnna let the Advisory Board know that the Mill Levy Application is now done. The application has been turned in so the Senior Center can continue to get funding. RE: Mid-Year Review BreAnna stated that Stacy Nilles will be coming on July 17th for the mid-year review. Stacy said she didn’t know if she will be bringing the Board. They will come and review all our documents and be sure we are compliant with the contract. BreAnna said our numbers are on target. RE: Senior Center Funding Jim Burgess stated the 1st budget meeting of 2018 will be July 25th at 9:00am. Discussion was held. Discussion was held. RE: Kansas Volunteer Commission 1 BreAnna said she is the newest Board Member on the Kansas Volunteer Commission. Governor Colyer appointed her last week. BreAnna will handle all volunteer work for the senior division for the State of Kansas. BreAnna said she will be going to Topeka every 2 or 3 months to go over details and see what the Governor wants her to do. RE: August Advisory Board Meeting BreAnna let the Board know she will be out of town the 1st of August and suggested the Advisory Board Meeting be changed. Discussion was held and it was decided to change the DSC Advisory Board Meeting to August 8th immediately following the Nutrition Center Council Board of Derby Meeting. Agenda Item #2 RE: Advisory Board Fund Report June 2018. Diane Schmitt gave the report for June 2018. The expenses for June totaled $1,530.50 and the revenue totaled $643 with an ending balance $12,915.39. MOTION: Janice Neagle made a motion to approve the Advisory Board Fund Report June 2018. Gerald Brownlee seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #3 RE: Approve June 13, 2018 Minutes. MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion to approve the June 13, 2018 Minutes. Duane Day seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #4 RE: Approve June 2018 Derby Dash Scholarship Report BreAnna gave the June 2018 Derby Dash Scholarship Report. $24 were used for scholarships which leaves an ending balance of $227. BreAnna said the Derby Dash received a donation in June from the Derby Rotary Club and the Derby Community Foundation in the amount of $1,500 which is to specifically help kids and people who want to attend the Free Lunch Program. The left-over money will be returned to the donors. The balance on the Free Lunch Program riders is $1,465. Jim Burgess suggested this report be modified to be a little more specific. BreAnna said she will ask the Dispatcher to make these changes. 2 MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion to approve the Derby Dash Scholarship Report for June 2018. Janice Neagle seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #5 RE: Comment Cards BreAnna said she had no Comment Cards / Suggestions for June. Diane Schmitt said she was approached to ask the Board if there could be themed Covered Dish Luncheons. Discussion was held and it was decided to just rotate the meat between Beef, Pork and Fried Chicken. Agenda Item #6 RE: Covered Dish Janice Neagle will pick up meat for the August 2nd Covered Dish. Eleanor Underwood will pick up the meat for the September 6th Covered Dish. Agenda Item #7 RE: Center Updates BreAnna said she does not have any updates to report on at this time. Agenda Item #8 RE: Can We Talk – Linda Hargrove BreAnna said Linda Hargrove WSU Coach will be the speaker at the July 12th Can We Talk at 6:00 pm. Agenda Item #9 RE: Garden Club BreAnna said the 6 members have been working the garden spraying for bugs and pulling weeds. BreAnna stated the plants are starting to produce. Some of the items being grown are radish, squash, tomatoes beets cucumbers, okra, watermelon, honey dew melons, basil, sage and mint. BreAnna said there was a garden box, tools and umbrella and the total investments has been $300. 3 Agenda Item #10 RE: Bingo Update BreAnna said the Progressive Bingo is ready to go and people must be a member of the Derby Senior Center to participate. Discussion was held Agenda Item #11 RE: Smart Board BreAnna gave the Board members information on an Interactive Magnetic Dry Erase Board. This would be hung in the Conference / Board Room. Discussion was held. MOTION: Janice Neagle made a motion the Advisory Board purchase the 51.2 x 39.68 x 4.2 Interactive Magnetic Dry Erase Board. Duane Day seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried ADJOURNMENT MOTION: Duane Day made a motion for adjournment. Janice Neagle seconded. VOTE: 5 yea, motion carried.
