APPROVED MINUTES SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY BOARD CITY OF DERBY August 8, 2018, 10:15 AM ROLL CALL GERALD BROWNLEE JANICE NEAGLE JIM BURGESS DIANE SCHMITT, TREASURER TOM DAVIDSON, SECRETARY ELEANOR UNDERWOOD, CHAIR DUANE DAY, VICE CHAIR CITY STAFF TED AUSTIN - ABSENT BREANNA MONK KIM HART - ABSENT Public Forum Agenda Item #1 RE: Medicare Conference BreAnna Monk stated she was at a Medicare conference last week and they provided manuals. Medicaid was there also and they will be having a class in Wichita. BreAnna said it was an excellent conference. RE: Kansas Keynotes BreAnna showed the Advisory Board a Keynotes magazine that the North Central Flint Hills Area on Aging sends. BreAnna asked if the Board would like to donate to this newsletter? Discussion was held and the Board decided they did not want to donate at this time. RE: Getaway Easy Travel Eleanor Underwood said she went on the Colorado trip through Getaway Easy Travel and it was Great. Eleanor said the accommodations and the food was wonderful. Eleanor said it was all top of the line and she would highly recommend them for future trips. RE: Sedgwick County Budget Jim Burgess stated it is budget time and there has been one budget hearings and there will be another one Thursday at 6:00 pm. Discussion was held. RE: Back Door Rug Eleanor Underwood said the stain on the back door rug needs to be cleaned. She said it looks terrible. BreAnna said she will leave a note for the cleaning people. 1 Agenda Item #2 RE: Advisory Board Fund Report July 2018. Diane Schmitt gave the report for July 2018. The expenses for June totaled $1,039.30 and the revenue totaled $0 with an ending balance $11,876.09. MOTION: Gerald Brownlee made a motion to approve the Advisory Board Fund Report July 2018. Duane Day seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #3 RE: Approve July 13, 2018 Minutes. MOTION: Duane Day made a motion to approve the July 13, 2018 Minutes. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #4 RE: Approve July 2018 Derby Dash Scholarship Report BreAnna gave the July 2018 Derby Dash Scholarship Report. $24 were used for scholarships which leaves an ending balance of $203. BreAnna said the Derby Dash Lunch Scholarship Program used $544 for an ending balance of $694. BreAnna said she spoke with the Community Foundation is going to donate the remaining unused funds towards the Derby Dash Scholarship Program. MOTION: Duane Day made a motion to approve the Derby Dash Scholarship Report for July 2018. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #5 RE: Comment Cards BreAnna said she had a few Comment Cards and she read them to the Board. Discussion was held. Agenda Item #6 RE: Covered Dish 2 Eleanor Underwood will pick up the meat for the September 6th Covered Dish. Diane Schmitt will pick up the meat for the October 4th Covered Dish. Janice Neagle said she heard the meatloaf portion was too small. Discussion was held and it was decided to go ahead and increase the portions of meat on the next order. Agenda Item #7 RE: Center Updates BreAnna said they have now painted the Conference Room and wallpaper has been ordered for the North wall and also for the East wall in the Game Room. Agenda Item #8 RE: Can We Talk – Current Scams and Theft Trends. BreAnna said the Derby Police Department will be here to discuss current scams and theft trends. BreAnna explained how hackers are trying to invade our emails. Discussion was held. Agenda Item #9 RE: Garden Club BreAnna said they have had buckets of produce recently. Cucumbers and jalapenos are the produce so far and soon we should have watermelon, honey dew and cantaloupe. Discussion was held. Agenda Item #10 RE: Progressive Bingo BreAnna gave the Board an update on the July Progressive Bingo. BreAnna said she had a request for candy bars and chips and this will be added to the concessions. Discussion was held. Agenda Item #11 RE: Advisory Board Meeting Day BreAnna asked the Board if they would like to change the Advisory Board Meeting to the second Wednesday of the month. Duane Day suggested moving the meeting to 9:00 AM following the Nutrition Program Meeting. BreAnna said an email will be sent to the Board Members after she confirms it will work with the Nutrition Board. 3 ADJOURNMENT MOTION: Tom Davidson made a motion for adjournment. Janice Neagle seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried.
