Bringing Code Enforcement back to the Public Safety Commission Commissioner Eastman spoke on the Commission needing the ability to address Code Enforcement on any questions they may have during the Public Safety Commission meetings. Chairman Meyer spoke on the ability to track Code Enforcement's budget, and having the Public express their concerns or complaints to Code Enforcement during Public Safety Commission meetings. ACTION: Asking the Police Department to have Code Enforcement under Public Safety Commission Moved by Commissioner Lavy Seconded by Commissioner Lozano Carried 5-0 by the following votes: AYES: Eastman, Meyer, Mitchell, Lozano, and Lavy ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS: 4. Animal Control Monthly Report Animal Control Monthly Report April 2021 Stephanie Zamora, Animal Control Supervisor, presented the monthly report and responded to questions. Fire Department Monthly Report Fire Department Monthly Report April 2021 Michael Martinez, Fire Battalion Chief, was unable to present the report due to a call. The report was received and filed. Commissioner Lozano and Vice-Chair Mitchell briefed on the Fire Service Increase presentation status. Council Member Betts requested more information from the Commission on the new Fire Service plan. Chairman Meyer summarized the plan the Commission was working on for increasing fire service. 6. Police Department Monthly Report Police Department Monthly Report March 2021 Steven Shaw, Deputy Chief of Police, presented the monthly report, gave department updates, and responded to questions. This process is for the Code Compliance Department to recover all outstanding administrative citations and abatement costs by assessing them to property taxes. • Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Officer Chaffin responded to a vacant lot off 15th Avenue and Via Real by direction from the Police Chief. Upon her inspection, she observed numerous abandoned and or wrecked vehicles located on the parcel. Officer Chaffin obtained an abatement warrant to remove/tow the cars from the property. On Friday, May 7, 2021 Officer Chaffin and Code Compliance Officer Messer towed seventeen (17) in-operable vehicles with assistance from Aarco Towing. • The City Council approved an Urgency Ordinance amending Chapter 5.28 of the Desert Hot Springs Municipal Code Sidewalk Vendors and Peddlers. The amendment provided several time, place, and manner restrictions to protect pedestrians' safety and sidewalk vendors. Code Compliance immediately started enforcing the new regulations and educating sidewalk vendors and peddlers on the new regulations. 1 Item Number: 5.
