Rite Aid was in violation of possessing and storing multiple shipping containers in the parking lot of their business without having first obtained a Conditional Use Permit (CUP). Officer Human contacted the store manager and informed him that the storage containers were not allowed. The business complied and removed the containers from the premises. Compliance Supervisor Tiyler Messer and Compliance Officer Loni Brock were sent to a structure fire at a single—family residence located at 66876 Estrella Avenue. Supervisor Messer had an existing code case for this property due to an illegal addition at the rear of the residence. Furthermore, there was a significant accumulation ofjunk, trash, discarded items, household items, auto parts, and construction materials stored at the rear of the property. An illegally erected chain link fence was also present. On Tuesday, September 10th, a structure fire broke out in the illegal addition at the back of the property. The Building Department red— tagged the property, and the occupants were evacuated. Enforcement actions will continue until the property owner takes the necessary steps to bring the property back into compliance. Code Compliance Officer Loni Brock has closed a long—standing case for the property located at 66140 Buena Vista Avenue. The property was found to be in violation due to excessive trash and junk in the rear easement and throughout the property. Additionally, the property owner constructed an illegal addition to the rear of the property. With continued enforcement from Officer Brock, the property owner obtained a demolition permit to remove the unpermitted structure. They also cleared the trash and junk. Before and after photos are provided below. Officer Pamela Chaffin found the property located at 66347 5th Street to be in violation due to a wrecked vehicle that was parked in the driveway. After sending a Courtesy Notice of Violation to the property owner, the vehicle was promptly removed from the driveway, and Officer Chaffin closed the case. The first arriving unit (E37) reported light 9/4/2024 12:54:00AM smoked coming from the garage. The fire was quickly extinguished and contained to a few small contents in the garage. The house sustained moderate smoke damage. Units will remain at scene for the next hour completing overhaul and assisting the residence. The residence denied the need for Redcross 24CARRU139348 CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department responded to the above location for a reported structure fire. Once the first fire department resource arrived on scene it was determined the fire 9/9/2024 3:11:00PM was isolated to a kitchen of an upstairs unit. Fire was extinguished before fire personnel arrived at scene due to the buildings fire protection system. Due to the amount of water from the sprinkler head activation five units are being assessed by City of Desert Hot Springs Building and Safety. Incident has been turned over to Desert Hot Springs Code enforcement. 24CARRU139686 CALFIRE Riverside County Fire department resources were dispatched to a reported structure fire with a victim trapped at 66866 Estrella Ave in the City of Desert Hot Springs. The first arriving 9/10/2024 5:40:00AM engine reported one home well involved in fire, with a second home being impacted by the fire. Firefighters initiated search and started fire attack. All victims made it out of the structure prior to our arrival. The fire was contained to the 2 structures and 2 vehicles. Both homes are uninhabitable. Red Cross will be assisting the 7 adults that were displaced. 2 adults suffered minor smoke inhalation injuries but refused transport. Units will remain on scene for another 2 hours completing overhaul. 24CARRU141841 CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department resources were dispatched to a reported head-on traffic collision on Palm Avenue. The first arriving Company Officer reported a high mechanism 9/14/2024 4:06:00AM traffic collision with major injuries and requested additional resources. There was one fatality at the scene and one major injury transported to a local trauma center. Palm Avenue was closed for an unknown duration while Desert Hot Springs Police Department investigate the incident. **** This SIRF was delayed in reporting due to resources running multiple incidents**** 24CARRU142090 CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department resources were dispatched to a reported cardiac arrest due to drowning at 13865 Overlook Drive. The first arriving Fire Department resource found 9/14/2024 4:14:00PM Desert Hot Springs Police Department Officers performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a 3-year-old. Firefighters initiated advanced life support measures and transported the patient to a local trauma center. While enroute, the patient regained spontaneous circulation and respirations, and vital signs improved. 24CARRU144528 CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department resources were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 66600 block of Ironwood Avenue. While enroute, additional 911 reports advised of a patient 9/19/2024 7:35:00AM with possible smoke inhalation. The first arriving Company Officer reported light smoke emitting from the attached garage of a single-story duplex. Firefighters located a small fire that was contained to the garage area by the residential sprinkler system. The smoke inhalation patient denied any medical treatment. There was no structural damage and no displacement of occupants. The City of Desert Hot Springs Building and Safety Division will need to assess the residential sprinkler system. 24CARRU148786 CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department resources were dispatched to a reported fire in the desert area South of Dillon Road. Firefighters, with the assistance of Desert Hot Springs Police 9/26/2024 10:49:00PM Officers, were able to make access to an unhoused encampment where multiple trailers and vehicles were on fire. The first arriving Company Officer reported a quarter acre of grass and brush 7/11/2024 5:59:00PM burning and ordered additional resources due to the high temperature and high winds. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to 3.04 acres. 24CARRU105156 CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department resources were dispatched to multiple 911 calls reporting an unknown type of fire visible in the desert area south of Dillon Rd. The first arriving 7/11/2024 10:45:00PM Fire Department Company Officer located a travel trailer and large spot of vegetation on fire within an area of multiple unhoused encampments. Firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to the trailer of origin. 24CARRU113239 CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department resources were dispatched to an unknown fire with explosions in the open desert. Firefighters accessed the fire via the Powerline Rd. West of Little 7/25/2024 8:25:00PM Morongo Rd. and the first arriving Company officer reported a trailer, vehicles and debris on fire in an unhoused encampment. The debris on fire included two pallets of hand sanitizer. Bystanders at scene reported an occupant from the trailer was missing and Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire while searching for a victim. No victim was found within the fire. 24CARRU123601 CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department responded to a reported Commercial Structure Fire. The first Engine at scene (Engine 37) reported a single story multi-family residence well involved 8/13/2024 9:21:00AM with fire. The engine companies were able to confirm all occupants were safely evacuated. The crews were able to get knock down on the fire. The structure was a complete loss with roof collapse. Fire did extend into a brush pile on the eastern adjacent property with no extension to the structure. One firefighter was transported to Desert Regional Hospital with minor injuries. Red Cross has been notified due to 4 adults being displaced. Engine companies will remain at scene for 3-4 hours for salvage and overhaul. Building and Safety will need to assess the structure. 24CARRU129180 CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department resources responded to the above address for a reported ringing alarm. The first arriving company officer reported an extinguished fire within a 8/6/2024 4:00:00AM commercial grow facility. The commercial sprinkler suppression system had kept the fire from spreading to adjacent rooms. Due to smoke damage, there was significant product damage. While enroute, the patient regained spontaneous circulation and respirations, and vital signs improved. 24CARRU144528 CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department resources were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 66600 block of Ironwood Avenue. While enroute, additional 911 reports advised of a patient 9/19/2024 7:35:00AM with possible smoke inhalation. The first arriving Company Officer reported light smoke emitting from the attached garage of a single-story duplex. Firefighters located a small fire that was contained to the garage area by the residential sprinkler system. The smoke inhalation patient denied any medical treatment. There was no structural damage and no displacement of occupants.
