Park and Recreation Board Meeting Minutes Tuesday, January 6, 2026 – 7:00 p.m. James Lannon, Doreen McVaugh, Bob Huether, Patrick McCauley, Molly Crotty, Karissa Elser, Tucker Brennan, and Caitlin Hernandez, Director of Parks and Recreation, were present. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. The minutes from the November 5, 2025, meeting were approved as submitted. Jenna from Doody Queens presented a proposal to install dog waste stations in Broad Commons and other parks. Maintenance and restocking bags at the waste stations are considerations, as is the cost of installation. Jenna believes one is sufficient, but two would be ideal. Jenna would like to install them and maintain them in exchange for having her branding on the station. If approved, the board recommended introducing this initiative as a pilot program. Caitlin will connect with other municipalities and bring the idea to Council when more information is gathered. James provided a splash pad recap. James shared the findings from his research on the topic. James reviewed the typical splash pad sizes, start-up fees, and ongoing operating costs. These projects can cost over $100,000 to build. At this time, we are not confident that the Borough's water infrastructure can support this project, and we do not have money budgeted for such a large project. Caitlin shared her Recreation Director Report. The Burpee Pavilion is in desperate need of upgrades. We need to bring it into compliance with ADA standards. We are working with Rick Brown, the local architect, to develop a concept plan. The flex space has been cleaned out, and renovations to the room will begin in January 2026. Caitlin suggested using the flex space as an additional income source by renting it for parties. We will be using it for programs like First Saturday Chess and the Summer Arts and Crafts program. Bike racks for Broad Commons, Burpee, and Chapman Park have been ordered and should arrive in late Winter 2026. State United received a Visit Bucks County grant of $4,250 to market the concert series in Broad Commons. Old/New Business: Under the New Business topic, Patrick had questions about Hillside Park and whether any improvements could be made by adding a path to improve accessibility. James would like to focus more on Hillside and how improvements and changes can attract more people to use the park. There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 7:57 pm.
