Page 31 The City of Dyer Board of Mayor and Alderpersons met in a special called meeting, April 17, 2017, at 6:00 PM. Those present were Mayor Chris Younger, Alderpersons Ray Carroll, Richard Reed, Ryan Shanklin, Robert Johnson, Craig Blackburn, Tom Mikkelsen, and Jennifer Hughey. The City Attorney was not present. The purpose of the meeting was: 1. To Consider Purchase of Wastewater Truck Mayor Younger informed the board that the wastewater truck had experienced mechanical difficulties and repair wasn't cost effective, in the Mayor's opinion. The repair estimate was around $4,000.00; the truck had originally cost $2,300. Younger said the J&B Motors had a 2005 Chevrolet 3500 4WD with flatbed and 130,000 miles. They had offered to trade with the City for the old truck and $8,500.00. Alderman Michael Barron arrived at 6:03 PM. Mayor Younger said the proposed truck could pull the sewer machine, the equipment trailer, and would be better for accessing lift stations (with the four-wheeled drive). Wastewater Superintendent William Caton asked that a tool box be installed if the truck was purchased, according to Younger. Alderman Mikkelsen suggested purchasing a new truck and that it would be better value for the city in the long run. He also suggested that the proposed 3500 might not be best for work on city streets, and gas mileage would be horrible. A new truck would last many more years. The Board discussed the purchase at length. It was suggested that more consideration might be necessary, especially as budget planning begins. The underutilized 2001 Service Truck (with a service bed) can be used by the wastewater department for the time being. It may need a new seat, but Superintendent Caton said the truck would serve their purpose for the near future. With no other business properly before the board, motion made by Ryan Shanklin, seconded by Michael Barron that the meeting be adjourned. Motion carried Carroll, Reed, Shanklin, Johnson, Blackburn, Barron, and Hughey voting aye; Mikkelsen voted no. Nathan Reed, City Recorder
