The City of Dyer Board of Mayor and Alderpersons met in a special called meeting on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at
6:07 PM. Those present were Mayor Raymond E. Carroll, Alderpersons Bob Moore, Tom Mikkelsen, Michael
Barron, Marty Graves, and Fred Ivle. The City Attorney was not present.
The purpose of the meeting was:
1. Consider the purchase of a used fire truck
2. Address and authorize purchases or spending necessaryto effectuatereparrs of a water leak on
College Street
Dyer Fire Chief Brandon Rudd and Assistant Chief Ryan Shanklin presented information on a 2013 Spartan Fire Truck
currently located in Canada. The cost will be between $180,000.00 and $190,400.00; this will accomplish purchasing
the truck, transporting it to the United States, converting the gauges and fittings to American standards, and preparing
it for use in Dyer. The Board discussed the need for the truck and the ages and abilities of the other trucks currently in
use. Motion made by Bob Moore, seconded by Michael Barron to purchase the fire truck from Fenton Fire Equipment /
Martin Coleman Sales and have It outfitted and converted by Lee's Garage at a total cost not to exceed $190,400,00.
Motion carried with Moore, Barron, and Mikkelsen voting aye; Fred Ivie and Marty Graves abstained.
The Mayor described to the Board the circumstances of a water leak on East College Street. The line developed an 18"
crack over the weekend very near where a crack previously appeared a few years ago. The line was patched, but is in
Imminent need of repair and could fail at any time. Water Supervisor Randy Gregory has determined that the best way
to permanently fix the problem Is to bore under the road and bypass the bad section. An estimate by Natural Gas
Piping for $12,500.00 would completely repair the problem; this is not a precise estimate. Motion made by Marty
Graves, seconded by Bob Moore that the Mayor, Water Supervisor, and Board of Aldermen have determined that this
is a needed emergency repair and to authorize up to $20,000.00 to National Gas Piping to complete the repair. Motion
carried with all ayes.
With no other business properly before the board, motion made by Craig Blackburn, seconded by Fred Ivie that the
meeting be adjourned. Motion carried with all ayes.
£. Carroll, Nathan Reed, City Recorder
