City Council - Appointment Committee

Appointment Committee Meeting Minutes: March 11, 2021 Councilor Rothschild called the meeting to order 3:32pm Members Present: Councilor Lindsey Rothschild, Councilor Erica Flood Also in Attendance: No further attendance Approval of Minutes: Motion to approve minutes from 02/25/21 (Flood). Second (Rothschild) Unanimously Passes Public Speak Time: No comments from the public. Continuing Business: I. Discussion about proposal to amend Council Rule 11H – Role of the Appointments Committee (to establish process & communication) Councilor Rothschild – in rule change we don’t necessarily need to prescribe the questions but ensure they are sent ahead of time to candidate so that candidate can prepare for either in person or written response. Keeping in mind further questions could be added to the above as long as relevant and sent with form letter Re:Appointment review process (see below) The Appointment Committee will be meeting on [Insert Date Here] at 3:30pm. In our meeting, we vote on whether to recommend confirmation of your appointment to the full City Council. In order for us to learn more about you and your interest in the committee, we ask that you respond to the following questions. You may do so in writing (as a reply to this email) or by attending our meeting and talking with us. 1. Why are you interested in serving on this committee/board? 2. In what ways do you see yourself being able to contribute to this committee? (professional/personal experience different perspective, skills) 3. What are ways you engage with the Easthampton community? (volunteerism, school involvement, meetings/events, school involvement, social media, etc.) We invite you to attend: [Insert Zoom Link Here] We welcome the opportunity to meet you and hear about your desire to serve the city. It is not required that you attend; nor should it affect our vote. Thank you for your interest and willingness to serve the City of Easthampton! Discussion regarding where do form letters live? Is there or can there be a G-Drive for shared docs to pass along to future council members? So that they do not have to continue to re-invent forms and letters. Regarding Code of Ethics for committee members, we need a simple one page form. Lindsey will reach out to Emily Russo to see if see if city has one on file we can use. Councilor Rothschild will draft a rule change based on the conversation up to today. New Business: Easthampton Media / PSAs to promote committees: Discussion: Invite Committee Chairs to present during City Council correspondence time. Starting with committees that have vacancies: Agricultural Commission Manhan Rail Trail Energy Advisory Community Relations Committee Council On Aging Cultural Council Clips from these presentations could be edited and saved for replay later on Youtube, Facebook, City website etc. to help educate folks about what they do.
