4. DISCUSSION ITEMS
1. Staff Report - Fire Service Operations - Fire Chief Landon Whatley
Chief Landon Whatley came today to talk about the Fire Operations for the city. Landon had a
PowerPoint showing them how they can become a firefighter. He also explained the difference
in the city fire departments and what they require and how it may be different. Landon wanted
to educate the commission on how they can become a firefighter and or EMT Paramedic
which is required to be become a firefighter. Landon also explained that the EMT Paramedic
class could come here at the school if they push for this to have at the school so that they can
come out of high school as an EMT paramedic. This could be very beneficial. The problem
they run into is finding a coordinator to run the program. He also explained the importance of
the paramedics on the ambulance and what they can do. They do more than an emergency
room on that ambulance. He wants them to know that becoming a firefighter/EMT will open so
many doors for them in a career. The commission agrees that this should be talked about
more at the school so that this Program could possibly come to the school for any students
looking into these types of professions.
2. Staff Report - Financial Report February 2025
Craig did not present a report for this agenda item.
3. Forest Hill Mayor's Youth Advisory Summit
Craig stated that we had one come to the Summit which was Sierra Sibley. They had a great
time, and they had cities like Burleson and Mansfield with their commission. They shared
some things that they are working on and some things that they do. These commission's do
orientations where they go out to the Fire Department, and they see how everything works.
This is definitely something that the Commission would love to do. Also, Craig stated that they
have talked about how the communication with the school and the city and that needs to be
worked on. Craig has come up with the idea of coming up with a podcast. This would allow the
information to get out to everyone and have certain guest appear on the show as well to help
get the listeners. This podcast could be pushed out over all social media as well. This is also
an avenue to some money and relationships with the podcast.
4. MYAC Initiative - Community Rec Center
Craig wants to keep this brief since Grossman will be here next week and he needs everyone
to be here. Also, he needs them to put their mind to work on what their vision is on the Rec
Center. Get their ideas together and bring all those ideas back next week to put a concept
together for this Rec Center with Grossman. Also, he mentioned to also get prepared to
present this to council.
