The meeting was called to order with a quorum present by Barb Cram at 9:37am.
Organization: Barbara reminded the group that by December 31, 2014 that there will be a
realignment so that the The Little City CATCH Foundation and the CATCH Council are more
separated in their membership and meetings. The current members of the CATCH Foundation
are Barb Cram, Laura Conners Hull, Midget Wang, Nikki Henderson and Jon Wiant. To make a
clean separation, the seated membership of each group will experience changes. The Current
Foundation Grants Review Committee is Howard Herman, Sue Earman and Jeff Tarbert.
The membership of the Humanities Council was set in 2009 by City Council as the
representatives of the 14 organizations.
Grants: The Foundation Grants Program received grant applications – and the Foundation
Grants Committee will be evaluating those by the end of September. On other grants programs –
the EDA grant program applications are due August 30, 2014 and the Fairfax County Arts Grant
applications are due in February – and it has a diversity grant category.
Development: For each major new development CATCH wants to ensure representation at
meetings so that CATCH connections can be set in proffers or the program of the new
development. For the Broad and West Street proposed development CATCH has been asked for
comments which are due 9/26. There are a number of briefing sessions at the Community
Center, September 2 for the EDA and September 5 and general public meeting. There also is a
review of the Comp Plan for Parks on Saturday 9/6 at 9am in the Community Center.
People who have visited the new Hilton Garden Inn said that it was beautiful on the inside and
all of the art work in the lobby and each guest room is from Falls Church artist or subject matter.
Technology: There is a website site meeting at Barb Crams House each Monday and Friday with
Nick Gatz and others. They are working on the virtual visitors’ center as the main focus at this
time. The library board is suggesting digitizing at least portions of Falls Church books – Like
Google Books. There is a meeting soon with Susan Finerilli, about the CATCH connection on
the City Website. More Calendar entries are needed.
A key videographer is moving out of the City which will leave a large gap at the Community
Access TV and the production work many of the videos that are being done. We need
replacements if you know of one – and each organization should think about needed a
photographer so we can visually tell the story of all of the great events that are happening in Falls
Church. There is a class for producers at the station, they now have 6 people – and can handle
12. We have has some real successes – Simon now works for Jane Pauley.
