The meeting was called to order by Barb Cram at 9:37 am.
Welcome:
A warm welcome to new student representative Sneha Parthasarathy
Minutes:
Meeting minutes from May 2018 were approved with corrections
CATCH Foundation:
No updates to report
Falls Church A&H Grants:
FY19 grants applications currently being accepted through July 19
Presentation on Founders Row by Peter Batten of Spectrum Development (which is
partnering with Mill Creek on this project):
Updated Architect and landscape drawings will be completed Friday
o Final images for public space will become available online on the City’s
Website.
Public Space Details
o Square footage of public space with extension (estimate 1800 sq. ft.)
o Boardwalk was flush with the ground – Didn’t Peter say he wasn’t sure even
though renderings made it look that way?
o Raised stage and can also be used as extra seating, will include power outlets
and light around the base
o Stage lighting will need to be brought in for special events
Meeting between engineers and Laura Hull was requested to discuss
lights and power needs in more detail
o Water feature is flush with ground and can be turned off for special events

o Grass Area will be synthetic turf
Additional Details
o Efforts are being made to put a lot of restaurants in Market Square
o Anchors (example the theatre) will need signage on Broad St.
o Total 325 (322 according to staff report) apartments plus 72 senior apartments
o Bike share and bike refuge stations included – not sure if this is necessary but
the renderings showed where the bike refuge was but Peter was not sure where
Bikeshare would go and it is not on the renderings.
o Overhead sail shades and festival lights to be used in portions
o Movie theatre will include a community outreach manager and table service
food
o Plan to have an art piece on done on the wall facing St. James (Arts &
Humanities Council will be involved in this project)
Concerns & Requests Expressed
o Rising costs of steel and asphalt
o Suggestion that concerns about bad reviews of movie theatre company be
addressed
o Request for public restrooms
o Request the water feature be safe for children (water condition)
Old Business:
Arts & Cultural Map
o Waiting to hear from Paul about potential Capstone Student to help move project
forward
Heritage Days
o Need to get a meeting date on the calendar and invite library to join us.
Announcements:
PlenAir Festival was a success
Music in the Park starts this Thursday in Cherry Hill Park
4th of July reading will be relocated this year to the historic Falls Church
Tinner Hill Blues Festival was a success, discussing more variety of music for next year
