1. West Falls Church Development presentation – Art Room –
The Advisory Board of Recreation and Parks along with the Arts and Humanities Council and Village
Preservation & Improvement Society heard from Falls Church Gateway Partners on the proposed mixed-use
development at the West Falls Church Economic Development Site.
2. Call to Order - Teen Center -
Charley O’Hara called the meeting to order at 9:03 p.m. Members present were Charley O’Hara, Bill Brew,
Kathy Chandler, Planning Commission Representative Melissa Teates, School Board Representative Justin
Castillo, City Council Liaison Letty Hardi. Staff members present were Amy Youngs, Deputy Director
Recreation & Parks.
3. Receipt of Public Petitions and Board Member Petitions - none
4. New Business
Discussion and Remarks for submission in response to West Falls Church Development.
- Comments are due April 3 which is the date of our next meeting.
- Designated Charley to collect comments from members to draft a response.
- How will public space be governed and ensure availability for City use.
- Need active recreation/tot lot and dog station. Recreation space should be open to all, not just
residents.
- Request a one day extension to submit response the morning after April 3 meeting and if not,
hold a special meeting.
5. Motion to go into a Closed Session pursuant to Virginia Session pursuant to Virginia Code §2.2-
3711. (A) 10. Discussion or consideration of honorary degrees or special awards; [Recommendation
for 2019 Grand Marshal]
- Bill Brew motioned, Justin Castillo seconded; motion passed.
- Charley: I certify that we only talked about what we said we were going to talk about when
we went into closed session. All said yes.
6. Adjournment
- Bill Brew motioned to adjourn the meeting. Justin Castillo seconded the motion. Under
unanimous vote, meeting adjourned.
