City of Fountain Valley Advisory Committee for Persons with Disabilities MINUTES - REVISED November 5, 2020 1. CALL TO ORDER Chair John Borack called the November 5, 2020 Regular Meeting for the Advisory Committee for Persons with Disabilities to order at 6:13 p.m. 2. INTRODUCTIONS/ROLL CALL Members Present: Herman Ajamian, John Borack, Philip Nisco, Gary Osterbach, Kayla Borack, Susanne Seiden, and Jan Werts Members Absent: Terry Coakley, Lawrence Judson, Anna Nagmay, Leonard Santoro, and Ramón Gálvez-Arango Staff Present: City Liaison, Yvette E. Aguilar, Community Services Manager Councilmembers Present: Kim Constantine 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM SEPTEMBER 3, 2020 Discussion ensued about the accuracy of the meeting meetings for September 3, 2020. Audit of September minutes included: amending minutes to reflect Philip Nisco motioned to nominate John Borack as Chair, motion seconded by Gary Osterbach. John Borack made motion to nominate Susanne Seiden as Vice-Chair. Motion seconded by Gary Osterbach.  Committee Member Gary Osterbach moves to approve Meeting Minutes from September 3, 2020 with corrections; Motion seconded by Susanne Seiden. Motion carried 6-0, with 1 abstaining to vote. 4. OLD BUSINESS A. Subcommittee Reports i. Recreation Programs - Committee Member Werts reported the virtual zoom dance was a success with up to 26 attendees at one point. ii. Disability Friendly Business Awards - Committee Member Nisco reported that December ceremony may not take place due to the pandemic. Discussion tabled until further notice. iii. Honoring two students from the Special Education program - Chair Borack anticipates contacting instructor once the students become comfortable. Further discussion in Spring 2021, perhaps Jan 2021 if pandemic conditions improve. B. Report on Committee Responsibilities – No report. 6. NEW BUSINESS A. Update on Virtual Zoom Dance on October 30 - Chair Borack reported that the dance was very successful with up to 26 participants. Vice-Chair Seiden stated there is an emotional need for these events to continue.  B. Ideas for Future Programming – Chair J. Borack suggested a Holiday themed dance on December 11 with a “Most Festive Sweater Contest.” Community Services Manager Yvette Aguilar will “Save the Date” and send out a flier by November 11, 2020. February 5, 2021 dance will go on as planned via zoom unless an in person option is available. April 2, 2021 dance date may change due to Good Friday, to be determined. C. Social Media Campaign - Community Services Manager Yvette Aguilar reports that Facebook is being utilized more often, while Committee Member Ajamian suggested Instagram use. Aguilar suggested a story series about participants in organization. Chair Borack suggested sharing those stories on local community forums. Aguilar will put together information linking the Fountain Valley website, Facebook, and Instagram page. i. Sub-Committee for Story Series is formed and includes committee members Chair Borack, K. Borack, and Ajamian. Subcommittee members will begin to meet in 2021. 7. PUBLIC COMMENTS None 8. COMMITTEE COMMENTS Vice-Chair Seiden reports that many members are terming out and must renew their term for the year. Committee members Ajamian, Coakley, Gálvez-Arango, Judson, Nagmay, Santoro, Seiden, and Osterbach are up for renewal. 9.
