FRISCO PARK AND TRAIL NAMING COMMITTEE MEETING THE GROVE AT FRISCO COMMONS FRISCO, TX 75033 6:00 PM TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2020 MINUTES CALL TO ORDER The Frisco Park and Trail Naming Committee was called to order at 6:05 p.m. 1. ROLL CALL Parks & Recreation Christopher Fields Present Board Member FCDC Member Ed Mahoney Present Parks & Recreation Sean Merrell Present Board Member Council Member Tim Nelson Absent FCDC Member Wren Ovard Present Heritage Association Traci Shipman Present Member Council Member Bill Woodard Absent Representing Staff: Rick Wieland, Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation CITIZEN INPUT No Citizen input. Page 1 of 3 REGULAR AGENDA 2. Approval of Minutes from the September 14, 2020 meeting of the Frisco Park and Trail Naming committee. Heritage Association Member Traci Shipman asked if her name could be removed as part of any action items as she was not present for the September 14, 2020 Meeting. Assistant Director Rick Wieland indicated that this change would be made. Heritage Association Member Traci Shipman moved to approve the September 14, 2020 minutes of the Frisco Park and Trail Naming Committee as revised. FCDC Wren Ovard seconded the motion. The motion was approved 5-0. 3. Review and additional discussion regarding park site located at the Southwest corner of Preston Road and Eldorado Parkway to name. Assistant Director Rick Wieland discussed with the Committee whether or not they desired to discuss a possible name for the Preston Road and Eldorado Parkway site, which received no action at their September 14, 2020 Meeting. After a brief discussion, it was the consensus of the Committee to not take any action regarding this park at this time. 4. Review and discussion regarding any additional park or trail sites to be considered in 2020 - 2021. A. Northeast Community Park. After review and discussion of the September 14, 2020 Meeting of the Committee, FCDC Member Ed Mahoney and other members agreed that the Northeast Community Park should be considered as a park site to be named. B. Any other park or trail sites. Assistant Director Rick Wieland mentioned that there had been some interest in the renaming of the First Street site, but no suggestions have been submitted. It was the consensus of the Committee to wait until a formal request was made to consider the naming of this park site. 5. Consider and act on potential parks and/or trails to be named and publicized, seeking input from the community. FCDC Member Ed Mahoney moved that the park site known as the Northeast Community Park begin the naming process. Parks & Recreation Member Sean Merrill seconded the motion. The motion was approved 5-0. Page 2 of 3 6. Staff presentation on next steps and potential meeting dates for the committee to consider names and recommend future action by the City Council. Assistant Director Rick Wieland provided the Committee with a proposed timeline for the Northeast Community Park site to move forward. In all likelihood, this process would potentially go to the City Council in February 2021. Previous parks and trails that received recommendations during the September 14, 2020 Meeting would be going to the City Council during their November 2, 2020 Meeting. ADJOURN Parks & Recreation Board Member Sean Merrill moved to adjourn the meeting at 6:30 p.m. FCDC Member Ed Mahoney seconded the motion. The motion was approved 5-0.
