A. CALL TO ORDER - Invocation, Pledge of Allegiance, Roll Call
Gahanna City Council met in Regular Session on Tuesday, January
19, 2016, in Council Chambers of City Hall, 200 South Hamilton Road,
Gahanna, Ohio. President of Council, Stephen Renner called the
meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Vice President of Council, Brian Larick
delivered an Invocation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Agenda
for this meeting was published on January 15, 2016.
Present 7 - Karen J. Angelou, Jamie Leeseberg, Stephen A. Renner, Michael
Schnetzer, Brian D. Larick, Brian Metzbower, and Nancy R. McGregor
B. EXECUTIVE SESSION - to go into Executive Session under authority of
Section 5.40(d) of the Council Rules of Procedure to prepare for, conduct
or review negotiations or bargaining sessions with public employees
concerning compensation or other terms and conditions of employment.
A motion was made by Schnetzer, seconded by Larick to go into Executive
Session under authority of Section 5.40(d) of the Council Rules of Procedure to
prepare for, conduct or review negotiations or bargaining sessions with public
employees concerning compensation or other terms and conditions of
employment. The motion passed by the following vote:
Yes: 7- Angelou, Leeseberg, Renner, Schnetzer, Larick, Metzbower and
McGregor
President Renner requested Jen Teal, Shane Ewald, Mike
Underwood, Abby Cochran, Joan Bury attend the Executive Session.
Executive Session will be held in the Committee Room.

President Renner read the Resolution and recognized Joann Bury.

M. REPRESENTATIVES:
Community Improvement Corporation (CIC) - Renner/Larick
Larick said the CIC met this morning in City Hall; had the
organizational meeting; George Mrus was elected President; group
excited to start off another year; have a wonderful group of individuals
participating.
Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) - Angelou
Angelou said she attended last MORPC meeting; she received a
candy bar for perfect attendance; safe routes to school will have
National Convention; hopes someone can attend from Administration;
working on H initiative; over 60 population will double; internships are
still open have quite a few filled, but might be able to assist; the capital
budget had $100 million in request; need to get to state legislatures as
soon as possible; handed out flyer to invite all newly elected officials
for breakfast; there is also a lunch; great opportunity Columbus has
offered; MORPC passed for the US Deptartment of Transportation;
smart city challenge; looking for specific size cities could have $50k
toward smart development; specific number will receive $100k to
continue to expand the program; asking all cities to send their letters
of support for smart city challenge; partners will be OSU and Battelle;
be on the forefront of technology; would like to make sure Mayor
Kneeland can write a letter in support; could mean, if awarded $10
million will be invested in technology for our buses; this is very
exciting; she will make sure everyone gets a copy; this will have a
large impact and will affect entire region.
President Renner asked if anyone can speak to this award; Angelou
said it is an exciting possibility; we will know if we make it down to the
five in June; she said we have a really good chance for this
technology; OSU spoke about this smart technology; caravan of trucks
with robots in the middle and front only front and back drivers
handling the buses; this letter of support will go a long way.
Bd. of Education, Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools - TBD
Renner attended organizational meeting; left literature; will start having
Council representatives go to school board meetings; let him know by
email who is interested; Leeseberg said he was at Highpoint meeting
and there is a school superintendent search meeting at 7 p.m. on
Thursday; he left stack of GoForward literature; hopes that will be well
attended.

Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) - Leeseberg
Leeseberg said meeting this Thursday.
N. OFFICIAL REPORTS:
Mayor
Mayor commended Joann Bury; thanked Jen Teal on GoFoward
Gahanna initiative; had a good turn out; Anthony Jones and him have
been out getting good responses; potentially some expansion that we
might see; positive movements in the works.
City Attorney
Ewald said congrats to Joann Bury and the Finance Department.
O. COUNCIL COMMENT
Angelou congratulated Joann Bury; said her son is very proud of her;
she told him that he was very proud.
Leeseberg said Highpoint is on the 28th.
Schnetzer congratulated to Joann Bury; he said it is so important; the
level of excellence that our CAFR displays; the real beneficiaries are
the residents; they get clear and concise information; only appropriate
to extend thanks on behalf of the residents.
Larick said kudos to Joann Bury.
Renner echoed sentiments on Joann Bury's achievement.

with other political subdivisions respecting requests for economic
development assistance.
