CALL MEETING TO ORDER Chair Piccolantonio called the meeting to order at 7:00pm. B. SWEARING IN OF BOARD MEMBER Mayor Kneeland swore in Parks Board members Joe Gottron and Sarah Mill. C. ROLL CALL Present: 6 - Cynthia Franzmann, Andy Piccolantonio, Jan Ross, Ken Shepherd, Joe Gottron and Sarah Mill Absent: 1 - Eric Miller D. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Ross, seconded by Shepherd, that the June 1, 2016 minutes were approved. ADDITIONS OR CORRECTIONS TO THE AGENDA Euton added Senior Advisory Committee member recommendation to New Business. F. HEARING OF VISITORS Euton introduced Alan Little the new Parks and Facilities Superintendent. Little shared he previously worked for the Department for 16 years. NEW BUSINESS Senior Advisory Committee Recommendation Motion was made by Ross, seconded by Gottron, that Merri Jo Linton be appointed to the Senior Advisory Committee for a term to expire on May 31, 2018. Yes: 6- Franzmann, Piccolantonio, Ross, Shepherd, Gottron and Mill Absent: 1- Miller McCutcheon Road Park Update Euton shared the update in with the Director's Report. I. CORRESPONDENCE AND ACTIONS None J. DIRECTOR'S REPORT Euton shared what each division of the department has been doing and upcoming events and programs. Euton stated there will be a Public Meeting on September 20, 2016 at 6pm at the Barn at Centerpointe Church. Staff will be updating the community on the plans for the park and fundraising efforts. Euton shared that staff is going through a firm selection for the Big Walnut Trail Section 4. A firm has been chosen and a request will go to Council to contract with them to do the construction drawings for Section 4. This section will connect all the way from Morse Rd to Hunters Ridge. The scope of work for the firm also include determining an alignment for Section 8 which will go over or below I-270 which will connect the tral at Price Rd to Pizzurro Park. The City of Columbus is working on connecting Morse Road trail to Blendon Woods and into Westerville. Euton shared the Go Forward Gahanna Implementation Plan Status Update. The Gahanna Pakrs & Recreation Foundation has committed at least $25k in 2017 toward the McCutcheon Road Park development. Euton continues working on obtaining additional funding for the park. 2016-0253 City of Gahanna Page 2 Parks & Recreation Board Meeting Minutes August 3, 2016 K. COMMITTEE REPORT'S a. Aquatics Advisory Committee Nothing at this time b. Bicycle & Trail Advisory Committee (BTAC) Euton shared that the minutes from the meeting will be included in the Board packets. BTAC discussed Section 4 at the last meeting, and the rapid flashing crosswalk signs. The City received funding from ODOT for six (6) sets. c. Natural Resources Advisory Committee Nothing at this time. Sarah Mill will be on this committee. d. Veteran's Advisory Committee Nothing at this time L. POLL MEMBERS FOR COMMENT Shepherd shared that while at Hannah Park playing tennis that a group of Pickelball players told him that they had the court rented. Shepherd wanted to know if it was possible to rent the courts and if so why were we renting them. Euton shared that we rent them for sustainability reasons. Shepherd feels the courts should be free and first come first serve. There are signs posted that court reservations are taken. Shepherd suggested posting the times the courts are rented. Gahanna Parks & Recreation Foundation Ross shared that the Hops & Vines is September 10th, 6:30pm at Creekside. The committee continues seeking sponsorships and basket donations. School Board Report Gottron shared that several schools are have parking lot repairs, MSW is having a refacing of the building and new windows. The Board had an all day annual retreat which went very well. The next School Board meeting is August 11th. M.
