CALL MEETING TO ORDER Piccolantonio, Chair called the August 2, 2017 Parks & Recreation Board meeting to order at 7:00pm. B. ROLL CALL Present: 4 - Andy Piccolantonio, Jan Ross, Ken Shepherd and Daphne Moehring Absent: 3 - Cynthia Franzmann, Eric Miller and Sarah Mill C. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion was made by Shepherd, seconded by Ross to approve the minutes from the June 7, 2017 meeting. ADDITIONS OR CORRECTIONS TO THE AGENDA None at this time E. HEARING OF VISITORS F. OLD BUSINESS Nothing at this time City of Gahanna Page 1 Parks & Recreation Board Meeting Minutes August 2, 2017 G. NEW BUSINESS a. Gahanna Active Senior Advisory Committee recommendation Barr shared that the Active Senior Members held their annual elections on May 10, 2017. Members interested in being on the Committee submitted applications. There were three open seats one of which is appointed by the Parks & Recreation Board. The two members with the highest votes were appointed by the membership. Barr shared that Councilwoman Karen Angelou is recommending Isobel Sherwood for appointed to the Senior Advisory Board. She is an active, involved member of the Senior Center. Also, her years of distinguished service in the Council Office brings an added expertise and understanding of City government to the board. Barr shared that Chet McMullen had the third highest votes and is before this Board for consideration. McMullen's application shows he is a former Human Resource Director and has been on other community committees/boards, and he can bring new ideas to the Committee. After some discussion the Parks & Recreation Board made a motion. The Board was pleased that names where submitted for the committee. Motion was made by Ross, seconded by Piccolantonio, to appoint Chet McMullen to the Gahanna Active Senior Advisory Committee. DIRECTOR'S REPORT 2017-0166 Director's Report Barr shared updated from each division. The July 4th event was very successful. The sponsors were very happy and the City is looking at expanding the event next year. In July GSP hosted a four day swim meet, approximately 1,500 swimmers participated. J. COMMITTEE REPORT'S a. Aquatics Advisory Committee Nothing at this time. c. Gahanna Active Senior Advisory Committee 2017-0164 ASAC Mins 6-21-17 The minutes from the June 21, 2017 GASAC meeting are attached. b. Bicycle & Trail Advisory Committee (BTAC) 2017-0165 BTAC Mins 5-22-2017 Barr shared that BTAC continues to meet monthly brain storming ideas for the east west connection. Staff continue working with EMH&T on the development of Big Walnut Trail, Section 4. The environmental easements were laid out last week by Stoneybrook Church. Construction will start in 2018 and be completed late 2018. d. Natural Resources Advisory Committee Barr shared that NRAC and staff met on August 8th with EMH&T at the lower McCorkel site. EMH&T is presenting to NRAC a review of the environmental impact of the project. e. Veteran's Advisory Committee Barr shared that brick are for sale for the next ceremony. The deadline to purchase bricks is Oct. 15th for the November 11th dedication. K. POLL MEMBERS FOR COMMENT a. Gahanna Parks & Recreation Foundation Ross shared that the Hops & Vines sales are underway. The Committee meets again on Aug. 8th at Somedays Bistro. Sponsorships and City of Gahanna Page 3 Parks & Recreation Board Meeting Minutes August 2, 2017 donations are still needed. The event is on September 23rd. The Foundation will bring forward to the September meeting a request for donations for Hops & Vines. b. School Board Report Moehring shared that school begins on August 16th. The schools are moving to one to one technology. Students in K-2 will have i-Pads that stay in the classroom. Grades 3 - 5 will be issued Chromebooks that stay in the classroom. Grades 6 - 12 will be issued Chromebooks that they can take home. Reasoning is that many of the text books are older and i-Pads and Chromebooks will provided current information. Candidates for the Treasurer are being interviewed soon. At the next School Board meeting Jill Elliott is being presented to be promoted to Assistant Superintendent. L.
