A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER
Simmons, Chair called the June 8, 2022 meeting to order at 7:00pm. The
Agenda was published on June 3, 2022

Absent: 2 - Chrissy Kaminski and Ken Shepherd

A motion was made by Miller, seconded by Ross,that the Minutes be Approved.
The motion carried by the following vote:

F. OLD BUSINESS
Master Plan Update
Ferrell states that PROS Consulting is doing a lot of behind the scenes
work currently before the survey is released. The hard copy is to be
mailed this week. The virtual survey will be published 2 weeks after the
hard copy is mailed. Ferrell states the recreation team is evaluating the
programs from 2018-current and compiling all information of programs
offered and enrollments to evaluate the lifespan of the program offerings.
Ross asked if the hard copy survey would also go to the Jefferson
Township Gahanna residents. Ferrell states that the paper survey will only
going to Gahanna residents, the virtual survey is available to everyone
and while the survey is anonymous, there is a way to track where the
survey comes from. Ferrell also states that the city marketing team is
prepared to do an advertising campaign to advertise the survey. McGinn
asked if there is an anticipated return rate on the surveys. Ferrell states
that other cities have averaged around 60 percent.
G. NEW BUSINESS
Big Walnut Country Club
Simmons states that she attended a meeting regarding honoring the Big
Walnut Country Club’s 95th anniversary. A historical marker will be
installed at Friendship Park and a dedication will take place on
September 16th 2022. Simmons stated that in addition, the committee
would like to being a campaign to raise funds for a statue of Nimrod
Allen, which will also be installed at Friendship Park.
New Board Member Orientation
Simmons states that she would like for there to be more to the
onboarding process to the Parks and Recreation Board. Ross states that
she will send what she has previously prepared on this topic. The board
after discussion, stated that they will gather their ideas for onboarding
and get them to Nichole Butler to compile.
H. CORRESPONDENCE AND ACTIONS
I. DIRECTOR'S REPORT
Ferrell mentioned that the pickleball courts at friendship park are open.

She mentioned that 612 pool memberships had been sold so far from
December of 2021. Simmons asked if the membership numbers are
expected to go up. Ferrell confirmed that the membership numbers are
expected to go up.
Ferrell updated that the Department has hired the Recreation
Coordinator II position for Events. Chelsea Heppert is expected to start
Monday June 13 and she comes to us from the Columbus Zoo. The
Recreation Coordinator II - Senior Center has been reposted as it has
been offered three times, also declined three times. The Parks division
has a new General Maintenance worker, Aurelio Dismuke. The city also
has a new Horticulturist, Miranda Gessner.
Ferrell also mentioned that the fireworks for the City are July 1st.

K. POLL MEMBERS FOR COMMENT
ii. School District Update
Lofton stated the construction to begin the take down of the previous
Lincoln Elementary will begin the third week of June. There will be a
smaller fenced area that they will place the bricks so that anyone who
went to school there or wants one can take a brick. Lofton also stated
that tennis will move to the Blacklick sports complex in spring of 2023.
There will also be 3 multipurpose fields in Blacklick, 2 regular fields and 1
turf field.

i. Gahanna Parks & Recreation Foundation
Ferrell states that the Foundation has approved an additional $5000 for
recreation program scholarships for 2022.
