1. Call Meeting to Order

Guests: Meals on Wheels Absent, City Council Member: Paige Lampson
Present, Andrea Johnson with MOW present.
3. Public Comment: Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the audience
may address the Commission on any item of interest to the public or any agenda item
before or during the Commission’s consideration of the item. Speakers shall restrict their
comments to issues that are within the subject matter jurisdiction of the Commission and
limit comments to a maximum of five (5) minutes.
4. Guest Speaker: Meals on Wheels Representative (Not Present)
a. Bob – MOW newsletter and brochure
b. David M met with Bob and Bruce
-how do they recruit new participants
- contract with City for $5000 (year plus Sr. Meals Coordinator salary)
- going to meet with City Clerk to discuss promoting.
c. Andrea suggested going to schools to help with sending information out
d. Solis suggested we could add this information on city bill
e. Accessibility; hard to get into the office building. Chabolla is not in
compliance, new doors installed. Lopez to request Building Maintnance to re-inspect and
will notify COA of results.
5. Acceptance of Minutes October 27, November 17, 2016 and January 26, 2017 meetings.
6. Old Business
A. Update on “Galt Resource Guide FY 2017/18” – Merk will work on and bring to
next meeting. MOW is also a reference. Possibly create a calendar.
B. City wide survey of needs of Seniors – 1st cut.
C. Past member recognition (George Nicewonger) – Gave Certificate (Merk)
D. Need for a Senior Center – Status (create a task force) – Merk stated that a
dedicated center for Seniors is needed. Andrea suggested grants for a building.
Solis brought up if city versus private funding. Ask council to put on CIP list to
look at. City is working on shortage on buildings, classrooms, gyms. Walker park
will have a Rec. building designated for there (Phase 4).
E. Status of fall FY2017 Health/Information Fair – Special Meeting being held on
March 2nd for this.
F. Press Release – Status – Bob went to Bonnie with Galt Herald and she offered to
set aside half page for seniors/commission to publicize information. Bob to write
a monthly article. First one due March 10th
G. Inform City about access is hard in several building – status
H. Public Website/Facebook/Newspaper – Meeting with City Clerk
I. Visit to Galt Senior Living Centers – status – Need to start visiting.
7. New Business
8. COMMISSIONERS REPORTS/COMMENTS – Senior Club loves Crystal from
MOW.
9. Announcements:
a. Sacramento County Adult & Aging Commission Meeting is the fourth
Wednesday of each month.

b. Galt Senior Club – 1pm Chabolla Center, 1st Monday business meeting/bingo, 2nd
bingo, 3rd pot luck/bingo, 4th Birthday Cake/bingo, 5th donuts/bingo & every
Thursday 12:45 – 2:45 Bingo.
c. Community Housing & Services Coalition Meeting – 4th Tuesday each month
(Oct 25, 2016) location/time – 7000 65th St., Sacramento (Sac Sheriffs Florin
Office Community Center).
