City of Galt MINUTES COMMISSION ON AGING 610 CHABOLLA AVENUE, GALT, CA Thursday, April 27, 2023 10:00 AM Chairperson: Andrea Johnson Vice Chair: Libby Robbins Commissioners: Bob Balliet, Phyllis Johnson, Bob Wilson 1. Call Meeting to Order 10am 2. Roll Call: Andrea Johnson, Libby Robbins, Bob Balliet, Phyllis Johnson, Bob Wilson absent Advisor: Monica Lopez – Parks & Recreation.Guests: Kenneth Lee, Caroline Chase (211), and German Ayon (Agency on Aging 4) 3. Public Comment: Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the audience may address the Commission on any item of interest to the public or any agenda item before or during the Commission's consideration of the item. Speakers shall restrict their comments to issues that are within the subject matter authority of the Commission and limit comments to a maximum of five (5) minutes. Kenneth Lee – wants a park bench on the Promenade, near the bike rack. Would like to have a discount card for the seniors for the local bus company. Would like senior discount cards for local businesses. Would like 30-minute presentations to be given during BINGO. Would like to have information about financial scams and food programs shared with seniors. 4. Acceptance of Minutes: Meeting of March 23, 2023. (Robbins, Balliet – all in favor) 5. Presentations: 211 -Hands on Sacramento (volunteerism, created in 1998) handsonsacto.com 211 (916-498-1000) when you call the center, they will verify what county you are calling for and transfer you, if needed. Tax and Cal Fresh appointments – they will help you make the appointments and fill out the Cal Fresh app. cchase@211sacramento.org 6. New Business: 7. Old Business: A. COA/GSRC’s Emergency Contact List See D. B. Bus Trips for Seniors to Casinos Update P Johnson reported that she is waiting from an update from the EG casino and an inquiry is in at Red Hawk Casino. C. Bingo Updates Robbins would like to add more games to choose from. Robbins would like to recognize each month’s birthdays at the first BINGO of each month. D. Galt Senior Resource Guide Balliet updated the guide to include an emergency contact list. Copies have been made. E. GSRC activities Robbins is working on the budget. Volunteers are going to be assigned specific tasks when working in the Center. F. SWAG Need to work on the options of what can be handed out. 8. Commissioners’ Reports: a. Chair A. Johnson: Will not be at the May meeting. Robbins will run the meeting. b. Vice Chair L. Robbins: Will work on presentations at BINGO c. Commissioner B. Balliet: Would like a transportation presentation. d. Commissioner P. Johnson: Attended the State of the City Public Forum. Interested in Water Aerobics at Aquatic Center. e. Commissioner B. Wilson: N/A 9.
