CITY OF GALT GALT YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES CITY COUNCIL MEETING ROOM, 380 CIVIC DRIVE GALT, CALIFORNIA MONDAY, MAY 1, 2023, 6:30PM Mission Statement - Encourage the youth to participate in activities that are purposeful in building better citizens. - Stimulate community service in Galt. - Encourage family participation in building civic unity. - Strive to emphasize the diversity in our culture by encouraging interaction within the community. - Collaborate with organizations devoted to the growth of youth. - Recognize that it takes all members of the community to sustain change for the betterment of our youth and families. A. CALL MEETING TO ORDER/FLAG SALUTE: Chair Kaur called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM. B. ROLL CALL: Youth Commissioners present: Akers, Brixey (6:33), Bulahan, Caron, Murillo Cuevas, Cullers, Gold, Kaur, Jones, Lallian Mentors present: Paige Lampson, Jessica Goerzen, Alan King; Mentors absent: City Council Representative: Mayor Jay Vandenburg C. PUBLIC COMMENT: Rotarian Leesa Klotz offered volunteers the opportunity to help with the Rotary community dinner “Taco de Mayo” on May 13th from 6 to 9 PM. D. PRESENTATION(S): None. E. REGULAR BUSINESS: 1. Icebreaker Information Item Leesa Klotz led the commission in an ice breaker to practice public speaking and communication skills. 2. Minutes from April 3, 2023 Action Item Commissioners reviewed and approved the March meeting minutes. Motion made by Jones, seconded by Gold. Motion passed, 10-0. 3. Community Career fair and fashion show Discussion Item Commissioners Kaur and Cullers reported a very successful career fair and fashion show. Many volunteers participated. Kaur and Cullers gave advice for next year: start planning very early and divide and conquer. 4. June and July meetings Action Item Commissioners agreed to not hold June and July meetings. Motion made by Akers, seconded by Cullers. Motion passed, 10-0. 5. Recruitment for 2023-2024 school year Discussion Item New incoming commissioners introduced themselves to the commission. 6. Treasurer Report Information Item Caron presented the current funds. A total of $12,460.99 is accessible. 7. Summer projects and activities Information Item • Ziplining - Commission discussed plans for a possible July bonding event. • Team building - Team building was to be included in summer bonding events. 8. General survey for high school Information/Action Item Commissioner Lallian presented efforts to have the survey approved by City Manager Hines. 9. City Council Update Information Item Tabled due to Mayor Vandenberg’s absence. 10. Scholarship Winners Action Item Riley Hemenover and Genevieve Akers were awarded $500 each as the 2023 Galt Youth Commission scholarship winners. Motion made by Cullers, seconded by Jones. Motion passed 9 ayes, 0 nays, and 1 abstain. Akers abstained. 11. Future Agenda Items Information Item More information on the Galt Old Town Festival taking place on September 23 was to be shared in the future. Meeting adjourned at 7:09 PM Minutes submitted by Commissioners Lallian and Murillo Cuevas.

Speakers may address commission on any agenda item during consideration of the item. Please come to the podium and limit your comments to three (3) minutes. D. PRESENTATION(S) E. REGULAR BUSINESS: 1. Icebreaker Information Item Leesa Klotz 2. Minutes from April 3, 2023 Action Item Commissioners will review and approve the minutes from the March meeting. 3. Community Career fair and fashion show Discussion Report out on event 4. June and July meetings Action Item Discuss having them or doing activities instead. 5. City Council Update Information Item Mayor Vandenberg will present this month’s update. 10. Scholarship Winners Action Item Budget has already been approved, but commissioners need to approve actual names according to City Clerk. Vote to approve those awardees. 11. Future Agenda Items Information Item Chamber of Commerce Old Town Fair.
