City of Galt AGENDA COMMISSION ON AGING GALT PARKS & RECREATION 610 CHABOLLA AVENUE, GALT, CA Thursday Sep 23, 2021 at 10:00 AM MINUTES Chairperson: Bob Balliet (Chair) Commissioners: Alvin Roberts (Vice-Chair), Andrea Johnson, Robert (Bob) Wilson, Phyllis Johnson 1. Call Meeting to Order 10:00am 2. Roll Call: Bob Balliet, Alvin Roberts (absent), Andrea Johnson, Robert (Bob) Wilson, Phyllis Johnson Advisor: Monica Lopez Guests – Councilmember Lozano, Linda Burge, Tara Wilson 3. Public Comment: Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the audience may address the Commission on any item of interest to the public or any agenda item before or during the Commission’s consideration of the item. Speakers shall restrict their comments to issues that are within the subject matter jurisdiction of the Commission and limit comments to a maximum of five (5) minutes. 4. Acceptance of Minutes: Approve Minutes of Aug 26, 2021 (Bob Balliet, Phyllis Johnson) 5. Presentation: NONE 6. Old Business: 4) Committee on Separation of GSRC from City – Report (Bob W & Phyllis J) – TABLED until in person meetings resume. 7. New Business: 1) COA’s part in 4th of July activities – After Action Report (Bob B) (Tabled until Sep meeting). 2) COA’s utilization of social media to address Seniors’ concerns (Bob B) (Tabled until Sep meeting). Commissioner Balliet thanked all who participated. He had also heard that the COA’s participation was greatly appreciated. Commissioner Wilson shared that he was hearing there that this is first some people had heard for the GSRC and that more marketing needs to be done. Commissioner A Johnson and her children handed out fliers throughout the community. Councilmember Lozano shared that he appreciates the COA’s involvement in the Community. (3) Commissioners taking ownership of Galt’s Senior Care Homes (Bob B & Alvin R) (Tabled until Sep meeting.) 4) Commissioners keeping Council members that appointed them informed of our activities (Bob B & Alvin R) (Tabled until Sep meeting). Commissioner Balliet has spoken with his appointer, Mayor Farmer. Commissioner Balliet brought forth a motion to have the Commissioners speak with the Councilmembers who appointed them on a regular basis. Commissioner Wilson seconded the motion. All other members present voted in favor. 4-0 passed Councilmember Lozano expressed that all Commissioners should feel comfortable to reach out to his/her councilmember. More exposure for the Commission could be at the Truck or Treat events in October. This was suggested by Councilmember Lozano. Commissioner Balliet with contact Jackie Garcia for a list of upcoming events that the COA could possibly participate in. Commissioner Wilson suggested that the COA gets the candy donated. Commissioner A Johnson emphasized that a large amount of candy is needed for these events. 8. COMMISSIONERS REPORTS: Commissioner Balliet is working on a home/senior living facility complaints. He will share more information at a later date. He also asked if the COA can submit something to the Quarterly Newlsetter (Ms. Lopez shared that the document is now a twice a month digital document. The Commission can submit their requests and if approved by the City Manager, the information will be placed in the document. Commissioner Wilson shared that the information could be better presented for the GSRC on the City website. Ms. Lopez shared that the website is going through a complete overhaul and that it would be greatly appreciated if Commissioner Wilson put his suggestions in writing to help with the update. Commissioner P Johnson wants the COA to be better seen. She suggests that the COA set up a table somewhere like in front of Savemart to be better seen by the community. Commissioner Balliet asked that Commissioner P Johnson take the lead on this project. Commissioner P Johnson will get back to Commissioner Balliet about the purchase of a COA tablecloth to use at events. Commissioner P Johnson asked for a contact list of the Councilmembers. It was shared that this information can be found on the City website. Commissioner A Johnson asked how much the 2022 Senior Calendars would cost. Commissioner Balliet will work on this. He would like to also create 500 laminated fliers with contact information for local organizations, etc… 9.
