City of Galt AGENDA COMMISSION ON GING 610 CHABOLLA AVENUE, GALT, CA Thursday, October 26, 2023 10:00 AM Chairperson: Libby Robbins Vice Chair: VACANT Commissioners: Phyllis Johnson, Joan Werblun, Bob Wilson Call Meeting to Order 10:03am Roll Call: Libby Robbins, Phyllis Johnson, Joan Werblun, Bob Wilson Present: Libby Robbins, Phyllis Johnson, Bob Wilson Advisor: Monica Lopez – Parks & Recreation Present. Guests: City Manager Lorenzo Hines, Jr. Public Guests: Mathew Malone, Tara Wilson, Joyce Horrocks. Public Comment: Under Government Code Section 54954.3, members of the audience may address the Commission on any item of interest to the public or any agenda item before or during the Commission's consideration of the item. Speakers shall restrict their comments to issues that are within the subject matter authority of the Commission and limit comments to a maximum of five (5) minutes. Joyce Horrocks with A-Z Foundation would like to help sponsor the Senior Luncheon. She will reach out to South County Services to offer their assistance. Acceptance of Minutes: Meeting of September 28, 2023.Approved as amended (Johnson moved, Werblun seconded, all approved). Presentations: City Manager Hines shared the “Galt Voter Attitudes Towards Cannabis” Presentation with the Commission. The outreach plan included a scientific study, 4 public meetings and a citizens’ panel. Commission would like to help with polling seniors regarding this topic. A. New Business: 1. Senior Seminars (Robbins) COA would like to continue with these and focus on topics such as CPR, gardening, fall safety, etc. 2. Community Dinner (Rotary sponsored) and Senior Luncheon (South County Services sponsored) (Wilson) Commissioner Wilson is asking for volunteers to work at the Dinner and the Luncheon. Wilson made a motion to allow the Commissioners to volunteer at the South County Senior Luncheon, Johnson seconded the motion, all voted in favor. Werblun motioned to have the Commissioners volunteer at the Community Dinner, Wilson seconded, all voted in favor. B. Old Business: 1. Bus Trips for Seniors to Casinos Update Commission Johnson is waiting to hear back from Sky River Casino. All West Coachlines will be contacted to determine what their casino trip rates are. 2. Halloween Events Participation – Galt Market Event and L’Chayim Event (Wilson) Commissioner Wilson will attend the Movie Trunk or Treat night. Commissioner Johnson will attend the L’Chayim event. 3. Senior CPR Classes/Tour of CSD Fire Station (Wilson) CSD will visit Bingo on 11/6. They will provide Vials of Life if they have any on hand. 4. Thursday Game Day The GSRC will use this time for something else. Attendance has been low for the game day. 5. Bingo Updates Foundation A-Z will sponsor Birthday cupcakes the 4th Monday of each month. a. On 10/30 the Galt Denny’s will provide the food and beverages (COA to provide plates, cutlery, and napkins), Chair Robbins will donate decorations and punch, A-Z Foundation will provide cookies. There will be a costume raffle. Commissioner Johnson made a motion to have the COA provide a $25 gift card for the best costume, Commissioner Wilson seconded the motion – all voted in favor. b. On 11/13, A-Z Foundation will donate 10 turkeys to be given out. c. Due to holidays, there will be no bingo on 12/25 and 1/1. Commissioner Wilson motioned to cancel bingo on 11/20, motioned was not seconded. Commissioners’ Reports: Chair L. Robbins: Would like to find more ways to help out in the community. Commissioner P. Johnson: Commissioner J. Werblun:McFarland Ranch will be decorated for the holidays. Opening Night is 12/3. Open House is 11am – 1pm and 6-9pm and again on 12/4 6-9pm. Non-profits are invited to decorate trees that will be placed in the front yard. Commissioner B. Wilson: Due to the Thanksgiving Holiday, the next meeting will be a Special Meeting on Thursday, November 16th at 10am at the Parks & Recreation offices.
